We are now a month into the college football season, with some obvious favorites emerging from the pack. The Georgia Bulldogs may have had the most impressive win in Week 4, taking out Notre Dame in a thriller. The Cougars come into this one with a 2-2 record on the season, but they also have a bit of a signature win, going into Tennessee and shocking the Volunteers 29-26 in Week 2. Week 5 has been a good one for them in recent years, with BYU winning 8 of their last 11 games in that week.
What they have going against them here is that they are up against a Rockets team that is very tough to beat at home, winning 13 of their last 15 in their own building. Despite that solid run of form at home, I see BYU going in and eking out the win.

The bookies have the Cyclones in as a slight favorite for this one, which would seem to go against the trends when these two play. Not only are the Baylor Bears now unbeaten in their last 5 games, including 3-straight this season, they have beaten Iowa State in 4 of their last 5 meetings on home turf.
That said, Iowa State have been very good, too, winning 9 of their last 12 games, while also going 6-1 SU in their last 7 games against teams from the BIG 12. I think we are looking at a close one here, but I am on the Cyclones to win.

The Minnesota Golden Gophers are off to a perfect start, going 3-0 to take their win streak to 5 straight games going back to last season. The downside there is that they are just 2-8 SU in their last 10 road games, but they have won 7 of their last 10 meetings with the Purdue Boilermakers, who have started the season at 1-2.
Purdue has been good at home versus the Golden Gophers in recent meetings, but I think they are trailing Minnesota in terms of talent this season. I am on the Golden Gophers to win and keep their unbeaten streak alive.

Just when we though that the PAC 12 was back in business, a couple of big losses proved that there is still some work to be done if they are to have a team in the playoffs this season.
The Utes and the Cougars both fell last week, taking them both to 3-1 on the season. Another loss this week is going to make getting into a Conference Championship game very tough, while killing any shot at the playoffs. There is very little to choose between these teams, so I am giving the slight edge to the Utes at home in this one.
