As we all expected from the off, this has been a rather strange kind of season in college football. It looked for a long time as though we weren’t going to get a season, as conferences flipped back and forth between playing and skipping. We then saw something of a staggered start, with the Power 5 getting off the mark at different times. As it stands now, it is only the PAC 12 that has yet to commence, with the other 4 all now up and running. It’s going to be a difficult task for the playoff committee to name their top 4 teams at the end of the season, but that’s something to discuss at a later date. For now, though, we need to concentrate on making our picks for the Week 9 games, which are almost upon us. We are looking at SU selections here, but we will also have ATS and O/U picks coming your way. With that being said, let’s get right to it so you can keep on betting against their NCAAF odds.
NCAAF SU Picks Week 9 | College Football Betting
Tulane Green Wave over Temple Owls
When we make these SU picks, we try to go with games that will deliver some value, which means looking for matchups that the bookies have as being relatively close (PK to 3 ½ point spread). That often means selecting games that you might otherwise overlook. We have that here, with both of these teams coming into Week 9 with losing records. This is a bit of an iffy pick when you look at the trends, as Temple has won each of the last 4 meetings with Tulane, while the Green Wave are 0-7 SU in their last 7 games versus team from the AAC. The thing that swings it here is that Tulane is in as a favorite and have covered the spread in 6 of their last 7 home games when carrying that label. A close one, but Tulane to win.
UCF Knights over Houston Cougars
This is not the UCF Knights team that we have come to know over the past few seasons, as their run of domination looks to be coming to an end. They come into this game with a record of 3-2, which is not that great when you compare it to their unbeaten seasons of the past couple of years. Still, this is a matchup that they have performed well in, although they cannot take this win for granted against a Houston Cougars team that is 2-1 to start the season. The Knights have been great on the road, going 14-3 SU in their last 17 away from home. As already mentioned, they have had the best of this matchup, winning 5 of their last 7 meetings with the Cougars. For me, that all adds up to a win for UCF this coming weekend.
LSU Tigers over Auburn Tigers
As we mentioned at the top of this piece, it has been a strange season in a lot of ways. The SEC has been particularly tough to get through, with a pair of potential contenders struggling in the early going. The Auburn Tigers have been up and down, moving to a 3-2 record through their opening 5 games, with the LSU Tigers have struggled to replace Joe Burrow and the other players they lost to the draft. At 2-2, it is more than fair to suggest that they will not be repeating as champions this season. When you consider that Auburn has won 9 of their last 10 home games, they look like a good bet, but I think it will be LSU that wins the battle of the Tigers.
