3 Reasons to Bet for Alabama in the 2018 Playoffs

Written by on November 15, 2018

If you’re a college football betting enthusiast and you’re looking for reasons to back the top-ranked Alabama Crimson Tide as a -250 favorite to win the 2019 national championship, then you’ll be happy to know that there are so many reasons that I had to quite literally force myself to stop at three.

With that said and Week 12 of the 2018 NCAA college football season set to get underway this coming weekend, let’s get down to business as I reveal my top three reasons why it’s a great idea to back the Alabama Crimson Tide to win this season’s national championship.

3 Reasons to Bet for Alabama in the 2018 Playoffs

The Offense

While Alabama has been its usual powerful selves defensively this season in leading the nation in fewest points allowed the fact of the matter is that we’ve never seen a Nick Saban Alabama squad this explosive offensively. Alabama is averaging a stupendous 48.6 points per game to rank third nationally in scoring.

The Tide are ranked fourth in total offense (539.5 ypg), a modest 30th in rushing (215.8 ypg) and a stunning seventh in passing (323.7 ypg) and really…Alabama has been able to reach brand new heights offensively because of gifted quarterback Tua Tagovailoa, but I’ll get to him in just a bit.

The Crimson Tide have a pair of running backs with over 550 rushing yards in Damien Harris and Najee Harris while third leading rusher Joshua Jacobs leads the team with nine rushing scores. A whopping five receivers have at least 400 receiving yards, led by Jeremy Jeudy’s team-high 45 catches for 925 yards and 10 touchdowns. The point is, the Tide are brimming with talent and now, they spread the ball around more than they ever have.

The Defense

Alabama’s offense has been so good this season that their defense has been unusually overshadowed this season. Still, make no mistake about it, the Crimson Tide are almost as good as ever on that side of the ball. The Crimson Tide rank eighth nationally in total defense (283.9 ypg), 23rd against the pass (186.5 ypg), eighth against the run (97.4 ypg) and first nationally in points allowed (12.7 ppg).

While Alabama loses a bunch of elite defensive players to the NFL draft every year, Nick Saban just keeps this unit playing at a high level, but then again, he’s getting a ton of elite high school talent every year, so I guess he should when you look at it that way. The offense is getting the attention this season, but Alabama’s defense is pretty much as good as ever.

Tua’s Time!

Make no mistake about it college football fans and betting enthusiasts, while, quarterback Tua Tagovailoa came into the national spotlight by saving Alabama’s national championship hopes against Georgia last season, the now southpaw sophomore signal-caller is now a household name and a genuine superstar.

Tagovailoa has completed a blistering 67.9 percent of his passes this season while throwing for 2,525 yards with 28 touchdowns and just two interceptions. The 20-year-old Samoan has poise beyond his years and a great arm that is definitely going to take him to the next level. Tagovailoa can make plays with his legs, but when he throws the ball, he consistently makes the right read time and time again and just doesn’t make costly mistakes.

There’s a reason why experts everywhere are saying this is Nick Saban’s best team ever – and the biggest reason for that belief is because they’ve never had a quarterback like Tua Tagovailoa.
