Win big in Week 1 with our 5 Sure Fire Bets For College Football

The great news for college football fans is that we will have some action this weekend, and while it will be great to have football back, it is not the official start of the season.

This is what has become referred to as Week 0, with the Week 1 games coming the following weekend.

My Analysis about 5 Sure Fire Bets For College Football in the Week 1

Just keep that in mind as you look over our picks in this post, as these will all be for games coming on the 31st of the month.

It is also worth noting that any odds mentioned in these picks might well change by the time the opening weekend rolls around, so also be sure to check that.

With all of that said, let’s look at 5 college football Week 1 games we love.

Clemson Tigers vs Georgia Bulldogs – UNDER 49

This is arguably one of the best games on the Week 1 schedule, with both teams looking to get back to the playoffs.

Georgia is a big double-digit favorite for this one, but it is the total that I think we can move on here.

The total for this one is set at 49, which feels a little on the high side for me. The Bulldogs have seen each of their last 6 Week 1 games go UNDER the point total, so let’s follow that trend.

Miami Hurricanes vs Florida Gators – OVER 54 ½

No need to wait for Rivalry Week to get a look at some heated matchups, as Miami and Florida will be hooking up in Week 1.

You look at the last 10 meetings between these two teams, and you see that 7 have gone over.

The Hurricanes have seen the OVER hit in 6 of their last 8 games, while 7 of the last 8 have gone the same route for the Gators.

Notre Dame Fighting Irish (+2 ½) vs Texas A&M Aggies

Another big one here, and a matchup that is likely to be close. It is the Irish who come into this game as the slight underdog, but I think they have a shot to win it outright.

They have covered the spread in 7 of their last 10 games, while the Aggies have gone just 3-6-1 ATS during the same stretch.

I might also be tempted to take the Irish SU here, too.

LSU Tigers vs USC Trojans – OVER 63 ½

This one is actually set to be played on Sunday night in the opening week, and I think it is fair to suggest that we might see some offensive fireworks.

Yes, that total is pretty high, but both of these teams tend to trend toward the OVER.

LSU has seen 9 of their last 10 go OVER, while USC saw it hit 8 times in their last 10 games.

Boston College Eagles (+21 ½) vs Florida State Seminoles

You don’t get a lot of Monday night games in college football, so this is definitely unique.

The Seminoles are looking to repeat their unbeaten season from a year ago, and while I expect them to get the win here, I am not sold on that point spread.

They are 4-6 ATS in their last 10 meetings with Boston College.

5 Sure Fire Bets for College Football Week 1

Picking sure fire winners in Week 1 of the college football season really isn’t that difficult, especially if you stick with the games where the bigger schools are playing much lesser opposition. The problem with those types of wagers is that you are only going to grow your bankroll by a few pennies. For me, I like looking at the point spreads to see where there may be some value to be found, as that can make those lopsided games worth betting odds. I have chosen 5 games from Week 1, going with the spread in each of them, so let’s take a look at my selections.

5 Sure Fire Bets For College Football Week 1

Tennessee Vs Appalachian State – Thursday, Sept 1

There are a lot of people who have the Tennessee Volunteers as an overwhelming favorite to win the SEC East this year, but I am no entirely sold on them just yet. Tennessee is coming into this one as a 20.5-point favorite, and I see that as a little high. Appalachian State had a very solid run defense last season, finishing 27th overall, and they have a good QB who can chuck the ball around a little bit. Tennessee should build up a nice lead here, but they may give up points late as they start relaxing. Appalachian State +20.5

Georgia Vs North Carolina

This is a game that we will be taking a much closer look at this week, but for now, let’s do a quick overview. This is listed as a neutral site game, but since it’s at the Georgia Dome in Atlanta, expect to see nothing but red and black. This is the first game of the Kirby Smart era, and you can bet that the Bulldogs are going to be fired up. Nick Chubb will be back at RB, and 5-star QB recruit Jacob Eason is going to get playing time. I think Georgia rolls in this one. Georgia -2.5

Oklahoma Vs Houston

The Sooners are another team that are getting a lot of love prior to the start of the season, with many looking at them as a potential national champion. While I agree that the have a shot, I think that their 11.5-point favoritism is a little too much for this one. The Cougars are a very good football team, and are essentially playing a home game at the NRG Stadium. I like them to cover. Houston +11.5

Clemson Vs Auburn

There are a ton of great games in Week 1 of the college football season, and this is certainly one of the more intriguing match-ups. Clemson came very close to winning it all last year, and have enough starters returning this season to make them a legitimate playoff threat. This is a tough opening game for them, but they should still be too strong for a decent Auburn team. I think Clemson wins this one by double digits. Clemson -7.5

Notre Dame Vs Texas

It’s a little unique in college football, but we are getting some Sunday action this season, with Notre Dame and Texas going head to head. Going back through the past 3 seasons, Notre Dame have posted an 0-8 SU record when going on the road favored to win by less than a TD. I like trends, and that is one that makes their 3.5-point favoritism here look a little shaky. I always thought of this as a field goal game in the making, which is why I like Texas ATS. Texas +3.5
