Why Bet on Alabama?

The Tide have allowed just 13 points so far and have scored 104. They beat New Mexico State 62-10 last week. Junior quarterback Tua Tagovailoa totaled 227 yards on 16-of-24 passing and three touchdowns, to go along with a 25-yard rushing touchdown. Tagovailoa finished with four scores for the second consecutive game to begin his 2019 campaign.

Junior wideout Jerry Jeudy had a career-high three touchdowns, after ending his day with eight receptions and 103 yards. Jeudy went over 100 yards for the third consecutive game dating back to last year. Junior wide receiver Henry Ruggs III added 141 total yards and two scores of his own with one on the ground and one receiving. The first play from scrimmage resulted in a touchdown for the Tide as Ruggs III rushed for 75 yards down the sideline to give the Tide a 7-0 advantage just 13 seconds into the game.

Alabama outgained New Mexico State 603-262 including grinding out over 300 yards on the ground. The 600-plus yards were the most when the Tide tallied 639 on Oct. 18, 2018 at Arkansas. UA averaged 9.9 yards per carry after putting up 318 rushing yards on 32 carries and four scores from four different rushers.

Alabama has defeated 84 consecutive unranked teams under head coach Nick Saban, the longest streak in FBS history. Alabama’s last loss to a team not ranked in the Associated Press poll was a 17-10 defeat at the hands of Auburn on Nov. 24, 2007. The current streak began with a win over Colorado on Dec. 30, 2007 in the Independence Bowl. The previous record was 72 games, shared by Miami (Fla.) (1984-95) and Florida (1989-2000). Under Saban, Alabama holds an 88-3 (.967) (84-3, .966 after vacations) mark against unranked opponents.

For this game, Saban is 11-1 (.917) in SEC road openers since he arrived in 2007, with the lone loss coming at Ole Miss in 2014. Saban is also 8-0 at Alabama when the Tide’s first Southeastern Conference game of the season is also on the road.

Why Bet on South Carolina?

South Carolina has ruled out starting quarterback Jake Bentley for the season. Bentley, who played his high school football in Alabama, suffered a Lisfranc fracture in his left foot on the final play of a 24-20 loss to North Carolina in the Aug. 31 season-opener. A fourth-year senior, he will take a redshirt this fall and have one season of eligibility remaining. Bentley, whose father Bobby is the Gamecocks’ running backs coach, became a starter midway through his freshman season of 2016.

Redshirt freshman Ryan Hilinski took over for Bentley against Charleston Southern last Saturday and passed for 282 yards and two touchdowns in a 72-10 victory. South Carolina scored the most points (72) under Will Muschamp, topping the previous high of 49 against both Coastal Carolina (Sept. 1, 2018) and Chattanooga (Nov. 17, 2018). Carolina’s 72 points is also the fifth-most in program history; tied for 23rd in SEC history.

Alabama vs South Carolina is a tough one for the Gamecocks.

The Gamecocks tallied 775 yards, the most in program history, surpassing 679 against Louisiana Tech on Sept. 16, 1995; it’s also good for fifth in SEC history. South Carolina compiled a program-record 493 rushing yards. The previous high was 474 against Presbyterian on Nov. 20, 1937.

South Carolina’s Muschamp is winless in two tries as a head coach against Alabama, with both losses coming while he was the head coach at Florida. The Tide posted a 38-10 win over the Gators in Gainesville in 2011, then rolled to a 42-21 win in Tuscaloosa in 2014.

South Carolina will be playing an Associated Press top-5 ranked team for the 20th time over the past 14 seasons, facing a top-5 opponent in 13 of those 14 years. The Gamecocks have posted four wins in that stretch.
