Analysis & College Football Lines for Washington at Oregon State in Week 5

Written by on September 27, 2017

Through the opening four weeks of the 2017 NCAAF season, Washington has looked very good, and there are suddenly some whispers that this team might have what it takes to make another run. They have what looks to be a manageable game this weekend, as they will be heading to Corvallis to face the Oregon State Beavers, with the College Football lines in their favor. Keep in mind the O/U for this one is set at 62.5 points. When trying to determine which 4 teams are going to be in the playoffs, you tend to look solely at the power 5 conferences, as that is where the teams are most likely to come from. What that also means is that one of those conferences is going to be the odd man out, and it’s always a bit of a guessing game trying to decide which one it will be, but there are many who would automatically suggest that the PAC-12 might be in trouble. USC is considered a favorite, but have not looked particularly great so far. The other likely candidate for a playoff spot are the Washington Huskies, but there are many fans and pundits who think it’s unlikely that they can get back to the playoffs for the second straight season. Let’s find out what they can do in Week 5 to prove those doubters wrong.

Why bet on the Washington Huskies?

The biggest question that the Huskies had to answer this season was whether their run to the playoffs last year was a fluke. With so many people jumping on the USC bandwagon this season, the Huskies have been able to fly under the radar a little bit, but that will not last long if they continue to put in the sort of dominating performance that they have delivered through the first 4 weeks of the season. Their opening 3 games were against teams that they were expected to handle quite comfortably, and they certainly achieved their mission. The Huskies first big test of the season came last weekend when they faced a very good Colorado Buffaloes team. Many viewed this one as a potential trip-up game for Washington, but the Huskies delivered the goods with a very impressive 37-10 win. Washington is now 19-2 in their last 21 games, which includes being 9-1 SU in their last 10 road games. Washington has dominated Oregon State in recent years, and it should be noted that the OVER has hit in each of their last 5 road meetings with the Beavers.

Why bet on the Oregon State Beavers?

The Oregon State Beavers have made an inauspicious 1-3 start to the season, but it is the manner of their defeats that is perhaps the most troubling. The Beavers defense has essentially been non-existent, giving up a staggering 190 point through their first 4 games, one of the reasons the College Football Lines are not in their favor. The College Football Lines for Week 5 don't look good for the Beavers. That has to be more than a little troubling when the next team up on the schedule is one that is proving to be a bit of an offensive juggernaut. Even in the one game that the Beavers did win this season, they still gave up 32 points to a much inferior opponent. Given that they have not been particularly competitive this season, it shouldn’t really come as a surprise to learn that the Beavers are 0-4 ATS thus far. They have been a little better ATS at home, going 5-2 in their last 7, but they seldom find a way to win, and only have 5 victories in their last 25 games.

Expert College Football Lines Pick and Final Score Prediction

I think we can safely suggest that this mismatch is going to end in a total blowout, as the College Football lines suggests. The Huskies will simply be too much for Oregon State, and I like them to cover that big spread quite handily. I also like this one to go OVER the 61 ½ points. Score: Washington Huskies 55 – Oregon State Beavers 10
