We saw another crazy weekend of college football action. We saw four Top 25 teams that were undefeated lose their first game last weekend. We won’t have as many top-notch games this weekend, but we’ll more than likely see a big upset or two. Let’s take a look at the teams sitting at the top of this week’s AP Top 25 poll, and then we’ll give you some betting advice as well.
Week 8 College Football Rankings and Betting Analysis | 2022 Season
Who’s At The Top Of The Poll?
- 1. Georgia Bulldogs
Georgia solidified their spot at the top with a 55-0 win over Vanderbilt last week. The Bulldogs will be on a bye this week, and then will take on the Florida Gators next weekend. The Florida game will be followed by a stretch of games against Tennessee, Mississippi State, and Kentucky. We’ll soon get to see if Georgia is the real deal.
- 2. Ohio State Buckeyes
Coming off of their bye week, the Buckeyes will now host the Iowa Hawkeyes. Iowa traditionally has one of the top defenses in the game, but an abysmal offense. Ohio State has been on a roll, as CJ Stroud and the offense have been racking up points. Ohio State starts their own tough stretch of games, so they’ll be looking to get off to a good start on Saturday.
- 3. Tennessee Volunteers
Tennessee is back! After last weekend’s upset win over Alabama, it’s safe to say that Tennessee has returned to prominence. The Vols host UT-Martin this weekend, so they should be safe. A date with Georgia awaits, and if Tennessee can win that, they’ll have a great shot at winning a national title.
- 4. Michigan Wolverines
Prior to last week’s game with Penn State, the Wolverines really hadn’t been challenged. For that matter, Penn State really didn’t challenge them either. Michigan will play the Michigan State Spartans on Saturday. Everything seems to be set up for a huge Michigan-Ohio State matchup in the last game of the regular season.
- 5. Clemson Tigers
Clemson has been tested over the past few weeks, but they’ve passed everyone, and now have another tough one this week as they host undefeated Syracuse. If Clemson can win this one, it should be smooth sailing the rest of the way for the Tigers.
- 6. Alabama Crimson Tide
We don’t see Alabama this low in the polls very often. After their loss to Tennessee, the Tide has some work to do. They’re still undefeated in their division, so as long as they don’t lose a divisional game, they should be in position to be in the SEC title game. We feel bad for Mike Leach, as he’ll bring his Bulldogs to Tuscaloosa to take on the Tide. No one ever wants to play Nick Saban after a loss……
Top 25 Team to Bet On
We just talked about Alabama. As we said, you never want to face a Nick Saban team after a loss. Mississippi State gets the unfortunate pleasure of being the team that has to travel to Alabama after a loss. The Tide is a 21-point favorite in this one. Alabama is 84-18-3 all-time against Mississippi State, and the Crimson Tide has won the last 14 meetings between these two.
We don’t think that things are going to go well for Mississippi State. Alabama will come out on fire, and will torch a suspect Bulldogs defense. Alabama wins by 28 and covers the spread.
