The playoffs are set, and we are all now looking forward to bowl season and the countless betting opportunities that come our way during the holiday season. MyBookie Sportsbook Regular Season Football Betting Preview | Army vs Navy Game 2023
With so many big games coming, it’s always easy to forget that we have one more regular season game to go before we make the transition to bowl season. As always, the annual game between Army and Navy will be the sole game on the schedule and will serve as a nice little appetizer before we get into the madness that is bowl season. Both of these teams are out of bowl contention, so this one is all about pride and getting their hands on the Commander-In-Chief Trophy, which will give one team bragging rights over the other for another year. The NCAAF odds are predictably tight, with the Black Knights favored by 2 ½. The point total for this one is set at 27 ½.

Army Black Knight
This has proven to be a strange sort of season for the Army Black Knights, as it looked for the longest time as though 2023 was going to be a total nightmare. They went 2-6 through their opening 8 games of the season, which included a streak of 5 straight losses, with that run taking them out of the bowl conversation. It would have been very easy for this team to, pardon the pun, go in the tank, but they have put it together over the past few weeks, winning 3 in a row ahead of this one. That run included a win over Air Force, who were ranked in the top 25 at the time of the matchup. It may well have been that unexpected win that served as the catalyst for what the Black Knights have delivered over their last 3 games.
Navy Midshipmen
While the Black Knights have had more of a streaky run during the season, Navy has been very up and down all year long. Their longest streaks, both in wins and losses, is 2, making them more than a little unpredictable when it comes time to start wagering on them. The bigger issue heading into the final game of the season is how they will react to what was an absolute hammering at the hands of SMU in their last outing. The Midshipmen were absolutely pummeled in that one, eventually losing 59-14. Overall, they are 5-6 this season, with their record in conference play sitting at 4-4. The goal now will be get back to .500, which would be a slight improvement over what we saw from Navy in the 2022 season, where they finished 4-8.
Army Black Knights at Navy Midshipmen: Team Stats & Betting Trends
Just when you think the regular season is over in college football, we get one more game before we start to talk about bowl season and the upcoming playoff games. As always happens at this time of the year, the Army Black Knight and the Navy Midshipmen will go head-to-head to battle it out for the Commander-In-Chief Trophy, as well as bragging rights that will last until they meet again at the same time next year. While there really is nothing to play for in terms of bowl games and such, this is a matchup that is always popular among football fans and bettors. It’s a game that is traditional low in the scoring end of things, which you will be able to tell from the O/U total here, but it’s a game that is always filled with pomp and circumstance, serving as a great way to officially close out the college football regular season. It’s also generally close, so it’s perhaps no real surprise to see the spread sitting at 2 ½ in favor of the Black Knights. The point total for this one is currently at 27 ½.
Army Black Knights Stats and Trends
It’s never fun to refer to a team as one-dimensional, but it’s a phrase that certainly fits the Army Black Knight approach to offense. This is a team that is very much run heavy, which becomes very clear when you look at their start for the season. Army is averaging just 107 YPG through the air, while gaining 209 YPG on the ground, which has them in the top 10 in the nation in that particular category. They are, though, managing just shy of 21 PPG in scoring, while surrendering roughly 22 PPG.
Army has a very decent record playing in the month of December, winning 10 of their last 14 games in that month. They come into this one on a 3-game win streak, but they have not had a lot of joy against Navy, going just 5-15 SU in their last 20 meetings. It’s no real surprise that the UNDER has hit in 4 of their last 6 games given their lack of scoring. Then UNDER has also hit in 13 if their last 18 road games on a Saturday.
Navy Midshipmen Stats and Trends
To say that these two teams are very similar in their approach to offense is perhaps putting things a little mildly. The Midshipmen do not turn to the passing game every often, which is why they are averaging just 99 YPG through the air this season. They are just over 200 YPG on the ground, so again, very similar to their rivals this weekend. Navy is managing just 18 PPG this season, while giving up 22 YPG. It really is amazing just how close these teams are in offensive and defensive stats.
Navy comes into this game with a 5-6 record this season, which is far better than what they deliver in games that they start as an underdog. In those outings, they are just 2-8 in their last 10, so taking them to win certainly does seem like a real risk. They are 4-6-1 against the spread this season, with all the point total trends leaning heavily toward the UNDER, including 6 of their last 7 played in the month of December.
Army vs Navy Score Prediction
If there is one thing that we can almost guarantee here, it is that scoring is going to be at an absolute premium in this game. For me, the UNDER seems like the safest bet, but I am also going with the slight upset and taking Navy to win.
