Betting College Football Week 8 Games

The college football season continues to bring great matchups, and Week 8 is set to deliver plenty of action.

Let’s take a look at five of the best games and the picks to make.

Writer’s Picks for the Eighth Week of the NCAAF Season

No. 2 Oregon (-27.5) at Purdue

Oregon heads to Purdue for a Friday night matchup, fresh off an emotional victory over Ohio State.

The Ducks have failed to cover in two previous Big Ten matchups this year, but Purdue‘s defense has struggled mightily, particularly against the run.

While Oregon should dominate this game, the large spread might be difficult to cover on the road.

Purdue may find a way to keep it closer than expected, but Oregon still comes out on top.

NCAA Week 8 Pick: Oregon wins 38-17 but fails to cover the spread.

Oklahoma State at No. 13 BYU (-8.5)

The Oklahoma State Cowboys are coming off a bye week, which gives them a chance to reset after a tough stretch in Big 12 play.

BYU has a solid defense and ranks well in turnover margin, but Oklahoma State has the potential to keep this game close if they can establish the run.

Expect a hard-fought battle, with BYU ultimately prevailing in a close one, but Oklahoma State covers the spread.

NCAA Week 8 Pick: BYU wins 27-24 but fails to cover the spread.

No. 6 Miami (-4) at Louisville

Miami travels to Louisville for another tough road test.

The Hurricanes are coming off a bye week and have shown resilience in recent close games.

Louisville is tough to beat at home, but Miami’s balanced offense, led by quarterback Cam Ward, should be enough to come away with a win.

This game will be closer than expected, but Miami edges out a victory without covering the spread.

NCAA Week 8 Pick: Miami wins 28-25 but fails to cover the spread.

Virginia at No. 10 Clemson (-21)

Clemson looks to extend its winning streak as they host Virginia in Death Valley.

The Cavaliers have improved, but Clemson’s offense has been on fire lately, and their defense is forcing turnovers at a high rate.

The Tigers have dominated Virginia in their recent meetings, and this one should be no different.

However, with a large spread, Virginia might keep it just close enough to cover.

NCAA Week 8 Pick: Clemson wins 38-20 but fails to cover the spread.

No. 7 Alabama (-2.5) at No. 11 Tennessee

In one of the biggest matchups of the week, Alabama heads to Tennessee in a game that has major SEC implications.

Both teams have had their struggles, but Alabama’s defense will be looking to bounce back after some recent poor performances.

Expect Alabama to lean heavily on their ground game to secure a narrow victory and cover the spread.

NCAA Week 8 Pick: Alabama wins 27-23 and covers the spread.

These Week 8 ATS picks feature some of the most exciting games of the week, with several close matchups that could go either way.

Betting against the spread can be challenging, but these games offer opportunities for value with the right picks.

What are the Different Types of College Football Bets? Let’s Find Out

College football betting offers a wide range of options to suit different preferences and strategies.

Here are some of the most common types of bets:

  • Moneyline:
The simplest bet, wagering on which team will win the match outright.
  • Spread:
Betting on the margin of victory.
A positive spread favors the underdog, while a negative spread favors the favorite.
  • Over/Under:
Betting on whether the total number of points scored will be over or under a specific number.
  • Player Props:
Betting on individual player performances, such as touchdowns scored, passing yards, or rushing yards.
  • Team Props:
Betting on team-related outcomes, like whether a team will score a certain number of points in a half or if the game will go into overtime.
  • Parlays:
Combining multiple bets for a higher payout, but also a higher risk of losing.
  • Teasers:
Adjusting point spreads or totals in your favor for a lower payout.
  • Futures:
Long-term bets on future events, like predicting the national champion or conference winner.
  • Live Betting:
Placing bets during a game as the odds fluctuate based on real-time action.

By understanding these different markets, you can tailor your betting strategy to your preferences and risk tolerance.

2023 College Football Week 8 ATS Picks | MyBookie Regular Season Betting Preview

2023 NCAA Division I FBS football season | 154th season of college football in the United States
NCAAF Week 8: Tuesday, October 17th – Saturday, October 21st, 2023

7 Penn State Nittany Lions at 3 Ohio State Buckeyes

ATS Odds: Ohio State -4.5
Saturday, October 21st, 2023 at 12:00 pm | FOX
Ohio Stadium, Columbus, OH

Penn State has yet to beat a top quality opponent. Ohio State did when taking down Notre Dame on the road.

But although the Buckeyes battle the Lions at home, beating Penn State straight up is going to be difficult. Starting running back TreVeyon Henderson and wide receiver Emeka Egbuka are injured and may not play.

Also, Penn State’s defense is better than Ohio State’s. So taking the points is the way to go.

College Football Week 8 ATS Pick: Penn State +4.5 | Bet Penn State at Ohio State Today

UCF Knights at 6 Oklahoma Sooners

ATS Odds: Oklahoma -18.5
Saturday, October 21st, 2023 at 3:30 pm | FS1
Memorial Stadium, Norman, OK

The Knights are on a 3-game losing streak. What’s worrisome is that in the losses, UCF has given up 44 to Kansas State, 36 to Baylor, and 51 in a road loss to Kansas.

Oklahoma is one of the top teams in the country. The Sooners have allowed 20 points just once this season. The line makes Oklahoma an overlay.

College Football Week 8 ATS Pick: Oklahoma -18.5 | Bet UCF at Oklahoma Today

Washington State Cougars at 9 Oregon Ducks

ATS Odds: Oregon -18.5
Saturday, October 21st, 2023 at 3:30 pm | ABC
Autzen Stadium, Eugene, OR

Here’s another where the favorite is an overlay. Washington State heads to Autzen a week after losing 44-9 to the Arizona Wildcats.

Zona is a much better football team right now than they were when the season started. But the game happened in Pullman. So the Cougs have no excuses for the lackluster play.

This happens in Oregon. Ducks roll past the spread line.

College Football Week 8 ATS Pick: Oregon -18.5 | Bet Washington State at Oregon Today

17 Tennessee Volunteers at 11 Alabama Crimson Tide

ATS Odds: Alabama -8.5
Saturday, October 21st, 2023 at 3:30 pm | CBS
Bryant-Denny Stadium, Tuscaloosa, AL

Last season, Tennessee had beat every team by outscoring them. This season, the Volunteers are winning games with their defense.

That’s important to note because Alabama’s defense has given up 17 to terrible Mississippi State, 20 to Texas A&M, and 21 to Arkansas in the Tide’s last 3 games. Tennessee has the better defense and better offense. Don’t be surprised when the Vols win this straight up.

College Football Week 8 ATS Pick: Tennessee +8.5 | Bet Tennessee at 11 Alabama Today

South Carolina Gamecocks at 20 Missouri Tigers

ATS Odds: Missouri -6.5
Saturday, October 21st, 2023 at 3:30 pm | SEC
Memorial Stadium/Faurot Field, Columbia, MO

The Gamecocks’ season is a disaster because South Carolina can’t stop anybody from scoring. SC gave up 41 to Florida in their last.

On Saturday, Mizzou brings one of the top offenses in the SEC into this. Missouri should win by over 10, much less cover a -6.5 spread.

College Football Week 8 ATS Pick: Missouri -6.5 | Bet South Carolina at Missouri Today
MyBookie Betting Lines for the Game

2 Michigan Wolverines at Michigan State Spartans

ATS Odds: Michigan -24.5
Saturday, October 21st, 2023 at 7:30 pm | NBC
Spartan Stadium, East Lansing, MI

Michigan is the most complete team in college football. So the Maize and Blue could definitely cover this.

Michigan State, though, always plays their top rivals tough. Also, Sparty lost by just 3 points to Rutgers in their last and before falling to Rutgers, the Spartans had lost by 10 to Iowa. MSU covers.

College Football Week 8 ATS Pick: Michigan State +24.5 | Bet Michigan at Michigan State Today
MyBookie Betting Lines for the Game

16 Duke Blue Devils at 4 Florida State Seminoles

ATS Odds: Florida State -13.5
Saturday, October 21st, 2023 at 7:30 pm | ABC
Doak Campbell Stadium, Tallahassee, FL

Florida State is one of the nation’s top teams for sure but giving up 13.5 points to a seriously talented bunch like the Duke Blue Devils is asking a lot.

Duke has a veteran defense and veteran offense. The defense will keep this close, much closer than the 13.5 spread line. If FSU plays a sloppy game, Duke can win outright.

College Football Week 8 ATS Pick: Duke +13.5 | Bet Kansas Today
MyBookie Betting Lines for the Game

14 Utah Utes at 18 USC Trojans

ATS Odds: USC -6.5
Saturday, October 21st, 2023 at 8:00 pm | FOX
Los Angeles Memorial Coliseum, Los Angeles, CA

Caleb Williams had a terrible, awful, game versus the Notre Dame Fighting Irish. Caleb’s 3 interceptions don’t fall solely on his shoulders, though.

USC’s offensive line has played bad football in two straight games. Arizona should have upset the Trojans a couple of weeks ago.

Also, the Trojan D is a mess. It allowed the Irish to rush for 125 yards. Arizona rushed for 203 yards. Utah has one of the nation’s top defenses and a strong running game. Utah win this straight up.

College Football Week 8 ATS Pick: Utah +6.5 | Bet Duke at Florida State Today

NCAAF Season Week 8 ATS Picks Expert Analysis

Previous Betting News

If you think the college football season has been great to this point, it might just be about to get even better in Week 8. The Big 10 teams are coming to play this weekend, but the top teams in that conference have some catching up to do, as Alabama and Clemson look to be the ones to beat this season. Clemson laid an absolute beating on Georgia Tech in Week 7, while Alabama came from behind to deliver a brilliant second half performance in a win over the Georgia Bulldogs. Those two have set the bar high, but it is going to be interesting to see how close the Big 10 can get to that mark. We are, as always, going to try and picks out some winners for you this college football weekend, starting with some picks against the spread, along with their NCAAF odds.

NCAAF ATS Picks for Week 8 | College Football Betting

NC State Wolfpack (+16 ½) at North Carolina Tar Heels

We have seen a lot of surprise results so far this season, with North Carolina on the receiving end of one of those over the weekend. Starting out the season at 3-0, they were expected to roll over Florida State in Week 7, but they instead fell to a stunning 31-28 loss in a game that they started as a 13 ½ point favorite. Despite that loss, they are in as a big favorite again this weekend, but how are they going to respond to the FSU debacle. If the trends are anything to go by, they may have trouble covering the spread versus the Wolfpack. NC State has covered in 4 of their last 5, but in head to head meetings with these two, things get even more convincing. The road team is 6-1 ATS in their last 7, while the underdog is 12-5 ATS in their last 17 meetings.

Iowa Hawkeyes (-4) at Purdue Boilermakers

It is always a little risky to make picks on potentially tight games in the opening week of the season, which is what it is for the Big Ten, but I am going to take that risk with this one. Now, it is worth noting that the Hawkeyes are making headlines for all the wrong reasons at the moment, with a group of former players in a $20 million lawsuit against the university. That type of stuff can often serve as a distraction, but I don’t see that happening here. There is a enough to be found in the trends to suggest that the Hawkeyes can win and cover the spread this weekend, starting with the fact that Iowa is 4-1 ATS in their last 5 visits to Purdue. Also, the road team is 9-1 ATS in the last 10 meetings.

Alabama Crimson Tide (-20 ½) at Tennessee Volunteers

For 30 minutes last weekend, the Alabama Crimson Tide looked to be in trouble against the Georgia Bulldogs, but a rousing second half performance took them to a comfortable win over the #3 team in the nation. The Tide are rolling this season, but this will be another tough one on the road against a very good Tennessee team. This, though, has been a matchup that the Crimson Tide have dominated of late, and they are sure to still be on a high after that big win over the weekend. Alabama has covered the spread in 8 of their last 9 visits to Tennessee. They are also 11-4-1 ATS in their last 16 against the Vols overall.

2019 College Football Week 8 ATS Betting Picks

Previous Betting News

Heading into College Football Week 8, we have been talking about how we are getting into the heart of the conference schedules in college football and that we should begin to expect some surprises. We got the biggest one of the season last weekend, with the South Carolina Gamecocks going into Athens and taking down the #3 ranked Georgia Bulldogs.

That result has turned the rankings on their head, but it will almost certainly not be the last such surprise that we see before the regular season comes to an end. It’s now time to look ahead to Week 8 of the college football betting action, starting with our ATS picks for the week.

2019 College Football Week 8 ATS Betting Picks

Houston Cougars (-22) at Connecticut Huskies

After winning their opening game of the season versus Wagner, the Connecticut Huskies have gone into a tailspin, losing 5 straight games. It’s not just that they have been losing, they have been routinely getting blown out. This is a team that is now just 2-6 ATS in their last 8 games.

The Cougars are 3-3 ATS on the season, but they have not had a lot of joy versus teams from the AAC, going just 1-5 in their last 6 outings. Given how the Huskies have been bleeding points, that trend might change this weekend. It is worth noting that the Cougars are 11-4 ATS in their last 15 games in Week 8.

New Mexico Lobos at Wyoming Cowboys (-19 ½)

These are the types of games that are commonly ignored by a lot of bettors, with many choosing to focus on the bigger games on the schedule. There is definitely money to be made here, though, as I think this looks like a really solid ATS opportunity.

The Lobos are coming into this one having covered just once in their last 9 games. The Wyoming Cowboys are 6-2 ATS in their last 8, but perhaps more importantly, they are 5-2 ATS in their last 7 outings versus teams from the Mountain West.

LSU Tigers (-19) at Mississippi State Bulldogs

The team that benefitted the most from the Georgia Bulldogs loss was almost certainly the LSU Tigers, who moved all the way up to the #2 spot after knocking off Florida last weekend. They will be back in SEC action this weekend, heading out on the road to face the Mississippi State Bulldogs.

While the Tigers have long been known for their defense, it is the offense that is carrying them this season, helping LSU go 6-1-1 ATS in their last 8 games. LSU is also 12-3-1 in their last 16 games versus teams from the SEC, so they look like a very good bet here.

Texas A&M Aggies (-6 ½) at Ole Miss Rebels

We head back to the SEC for another pick and another intriguing battle, of which there seems to be one every single week in this conference. Texas A&M has seen their progress stall a little this season, going just 3-3 SU through their opening 6 games of the season.

While they will be on the road here at a place where they don’t normally see a lot of joy against the spread, I think they turn things around versus the Rebels. The Aggies are a solid 13-7 ATS in their last 20 games and I like them to improve on that record on Saturday.

NCAA Football Week 8 ATS Picks

Previous Betting News

Week 7 of the college football season proved to be a little more dramatic than most, with a number of big teams losing to underdogs and seeing their playoff push sidelined. There is still plenty of time for the teams in question to turn things around, with a couple still in control of their own destiny. There is no time to dwell on the past, though, as we now need to start looking forward to Week 8. There are a lot of big games on the schedule for the coming week and we will be delivering a series of picks. Based on the latest college football betting lines, we will start out with some ATS picks, but also be on the lookout for our SU and O/U picks.

NCAA Football Week 8 ATS Picks

Utah State Aggies (-14 ½) vs Wyoming Cowboys

The Aggies come into this one at 5-1 on the season, but perhaps more importantly, they have gone 6-0 ATS to start the year. The success in covering the spread has not just been just in home games, as the Aggies are 5-2 ATS in their last 7 games on the road.

They take to the road this week to go against a Wyoming Cowboys team that is struggling badly at just 2-5 SU on the season. Furthermore, they are 1-6 ATS this season and have failed to cover in each of their last 5 games. In the last 10 meetings between these teams, the spread has been split down the middle at 5-5, but I think the Aggies cover handily here.

Penn State Nittany Lions (-15 ½) vs Indiana Hoosiers

I’m a little concerned about this one, simply because it’s tough to know how the Nittany Lions will react after losing to Michigan State last week. It was a loss that put their playoff hopes in serious jeopardy, and now they need to go on the road to face the Indiana Hoosiers this weekend.

I have a feeling that Penn State will come out with guns blazing as they look to wash out the bad taste of last week. The Nittany Lions have won 18 of their last 19 meetings with the Hoosiers, a team that is just 2-5 ATS this season. I think Penn State wins this game by 20 points or more.

Mississippi State Bulldogs vs LSU Tigers (-7)

The LSU Tigers are coming off their biggest win of the season, laying a beatdown on the Georgia Bulldogs that has vaulted them back into the playoff conversation. They won that one at home and will once again have home-field advantage when they welcome in the Mississippi State Bulldogs this weekend.

The Tigers have been a fantastic bet of late, going 10-4 ATS in their last 14 home games. They have won 10 of their last 11 games against the Bulldogs at home, so it’s fair to suggest that they will win this one, too, and I believe they will easily cover the spread.

UCF Knights (-21) vs East Carolina Pirates

We all know the story of the UCF Knights and their unbeaten season in 2017, but the big question this year was whether they could repeat the feat. They certainly made things look easy through the first 6 weeks of the season, but they ran into a very good Memphis team in Week 7 and needed to pull that one out late to maintain their unbeaten start.

The Knights should have an easier time of it this weekend against an East Carolina team that is just 2-4 SU and ATS this season. Look for UCF to get back to winning big in this one.

Latest NCAA Football Week 8 Betting Trends

Top ATS Picks for College Football Week 8

Previous Betting News

If you like playing the underdogs in college football, chances are you cleaned up last weekend. We saw no less than four top 10 teams bite the dust, making us all believe that the Friday the 13th jinx is very much alive and well. Not only did we fail to see a lot of top teams fail to cover the spread, we also saw many of them lose straight up. It is this madness that makes college football so much fun to watch, but the question now is whether that craziness will carry over to College Football Week 8.

We have already put together some SU picks for the coming weekend, but now it’s time to turn our attention to ATS selections. There are a lot of big games to choose from, so let’s take a look at the NCAAF Odds and see if we can find some winners for Week 8.

Top ATS Picks for College Football Week 8

Memphis Tigers (+3) vs. Houston Cougars

Memphis are very quietly putting together a very good season, coming into this one with a 5-1 record. While the Tigers have not had a lot of SU success versus the Cougars in their previous meetings, they have managed to go 4-2 ATS in the last 6 meetings with them. With the spread set at 3 points for this one, you are essentially looking at the winner being the team that covers, and I like Memphis to come up with the win. I like the Tigers to win this one by a TD, so you may also want to look at playing them as an SU underdog.

Latest Betting Trends for College Football Week 8

Iowa State Cyclones (+6) vs. Texas Tech Red Raiders

This is another game where I think that the underdog can win SU as opposed to just staying close and covering the spread. The Cyclones put themselves on the map a couple of weeks ago with a huge win over the Oklahoma Sooners and continued to roll with another big win last week. Texas Tech may still be reeling after gassing a huge lead over West Virginia last weekend, and you really need to wonder what their mindset will be for this one. Iowa State is a healthy 8-1-1 ATS in their last 10 games, and would not be surprised to see them improve on that already impressive record.

Louisville Cardinals (+6 ½) vs. Florida State

As you have probably noticed, we are going with an underdog theme this weekend, and I think we have a live one in this game. Yes, Louisville has succumbed to back to back losses, but even when they drop games, they put big points up on the board. The Florida State Seminoles look like a team on life support, as they have never really recovered from a start to the season that saw them lose to Alabama and then miss games due to Hurricanes in the state. They look like a team that has already written this season off, and that should mean that the Cardinals will be able to take advantage of that malaise.

UCF Knights (-8) vs. Navy Midshipmen

We can’t really finish up our Week 8 college football ATS picks without taking at least one favorite. This is actually a very good match-up, with Central Florida coming in unbeaten and Navy only having a single loss. The stat that jumps off the page this season though is that the UCF Knights are a perfect 5-0 ATS. Navy is coming into this one after losing their first game of the season last weekend, and I think they are in tough again here. I like UCF to continue their unbeaten run, and see them winning this one by double digits.

Top College Football Highlight Trio Of Week 8 ATS Free Picks

Previous Betting News

If you’re looking for some potentially bankroll-boosting college football ATS picks, then you’re going to love the trio of Week 8 picks that you’re about to get.

With Heisman trophy favorite Lamar Jackson, Wisconsin’s stingy defense – and Oklahoma State’s high-scoring offense all taking center stage, let’s get started.

Here’s A Closer Look At The Top College Football Highlight Trio Of Week 8 ATS Free Picks

North Carolina State at No. 7 Louisville

When: Saturday, October 22, 2016 at 12:00 PM ET
Where: Papa John’s Cardinal Stadium
NCAAF Odds: Louisville -18

Analysis:
The NC State Wolfpack (4-2 SU, 5-1 ATS) will look to bounce back from their crushing 24-17 loss against No. 3 Clemson when they visit Lamar Jackson and the seventh-ranked Louisville Cardinals, but I just don’t see it happening, although I do like the Wolfpack to cover the spread as an insane 18-point favorite after watching them easily cash in as 20-point dogs against the Tigers.

Louisville (5-1 SU, 4-2 ATS) got past Duke 24-14 in a hard-fought matchup this past weekend and I think the Cards are in for another tough battle in this contest. While Louisville ranks a stellar second in scoring at 52.3 points per game, NC State is limiting the opposition to just 18.6 points per game this season to rank 17th nationally in points allowed.

While Louisville has gone 6-2 ATS in its last eight games, North Carolina State has gone 5-1 ATS in its last six games and a bankroll-boosting 9-4 ATS in their last 13 road games.

My Pick: Louisville 28 NC State 24

No. 10 Wisconsin at Iowa

When: Saturday, October 22, 2016 at 12:00 PM ET
Where: Kinnick Stadium
NCAAF Odds: Wisconsin -3

Analysis:
The 10th-ranked Wisconsin Badgers have lost two straight while the Iowa Hawkeyes have won two in a row. Still, it is the Badgers that are my pick to march into Iowa’s Kinnick Stadium and walk out with a victory. Iowa (5-2 SU, 3-4 ATS) got past Purdue 49-35 in a high-scoring affair while covering the spread as a 12-point favorite, but for me, seeing the Hawkeyes give up a whopping 35 points leads me to believe they’re in trouble against a much better Wisconsin team.

Wisconsin (4-2 SU, 5-1 ATS) is coming off a heartbreaking 30-23 loss against Ohio State on Saturday just one week after their equally disheartening 14-7 loss to Michigan,  but the fact of the matter is that Wisconsin is about as elite as it gets this season. I think the Hawkeyes will have their hands full with Badgers running back Corey Clement and I like the continued maturation of redshirt freshman quarterback Alex Hornibrook.

While Wisconsin has gone 7-1 ATS in its last eight games, Iowa is just 3-5-1 ATS in its last nine games.  Making matters worse, Wisconsin is 4-1 ATS in its last five road games while Iowa has gone 1-7-1 ATS in its last nine home games. The Badgers win and cover the spread with room to spare.

My Pick: Wisconsin 28 Iowa 17

Oklahoma State at Kansas

When: Saturday, October 22, 2016 at 12:00 PM ET
Where: Memorial Stadium
NCAAF Odds: Oklahoma State -24.5

Analysis:
Oklahoma State (4-2 SU, 3-3 ATS) has given up at least 30 points in every single game this season,  but the Cowboys are still the easy pick for me to not only get past one-win Kansas(1-5 SU, 2-4 ATS), but to cover the spread as an emphatic Week 8 lock! The Jayhawks got completely man-handled in their convincing 49-7 Week 7 loss against Baylor while never coming close to covering the spread as an insane 33-point underdog.

Oklahoma State didn’t look particularly overwhelming, but managed to get past Iowa State 38-31 on Saturday despite failing to cash in as a 14.5-point favorite. The Cowboys have the huge edge in scoring as they average 18.6 points per game more than the Jayhawks (22.0 ppg) while also allowing exactly 7.0 points per game less than their Big 12 rivals defensively this season.

More importantly, the Cowboys have a potent offense that can put points on the board in a hurry while Kansas struggles to score the ball no matter who they’re playing. While Oklahoma State is just 3-7 ATS in its last 10 games, Kansas is 1-4 ATS in its last 5 games, 3-7 ATS in their last 10 home games and an uninspiring 3-10 ATS in their last 13 games against Oklahoma State. The Cowboys win going away to cover the college football betting line.

My Pick: Oklahoma State 49 Kansas 17
