It is, by this point, rather obvious that the top 4 teams control their own destiny, as they will all probably be in if they go unbeaten the rest of the way. The one question mark in there is the Notre Dame Fighting Irish. Since they are an independent, they will not play in a Conference Championship game, which could well mean that a 1-loss champion from the Power 5 may sneak in ahead of them. If that is indeed the case, then you have to believe that the Georgia Bulldogs are still in control of their own destiny. If they can win their final 3 regular season games and then go on to beat Alabama in the SEC Conference Championship Game, the playoff committee would have a very tough time keeping them out.
There is a lot of football still to be played, though, and the Bulldogs certainly don’t have an easy one this weekend. Yes, the Tigers are having a mediocre year, but let’s not forget that this team was in the SEC Championship Game last season as winners of the West Division. Georgia is in as a 14 ½ point favorite, with the point total set at 52 ½.
It’s clear that Kirby Smart has recruited brilliantly, as this Dawgs team has still been able to generate over 233 YPG on the ground despite having an O-line that has been hit hard by injury. They will once again look to run the ball down the throat of the Auburn defense to maintain their unbeaten home record this season.
