Written by on July 7, 2016

With the playoffs now a permanent part of the college football landscape, most of the bigger teams ae taking on tougher schedules in an effort to impress the playoff committee and get into that coveted final four. What the means for the average football fan is that we are going to get more than our fair share of big games this season. What it means for the college football lines bettor is that there are going to be a lot of value plays out there. When you have two teams that are evenly matched going head to head, you tend to get decent prices on both. You can make this work in your favor if you can predict who will win these games more often than not. You can build a nice little bankroll that you can then use to pad your earnings with some safer plays along the way. We don’t yet have betting odds for most of these games, but let’s take a look at some of the big ones on tap for the coming season.

Best College Football Bets in the 2016 Calendar

Michigan at Ohio State – November 26

This looks like being a Big 10 showdown for the ages, and one that might have playoff implications for both teams. There is a better than average chance that Michigan will arrive at this game unbeaten, and that could well also be true for Ohio State Buckeyes if they can take out Oklahoma earlier in the season. That’s a pretty big if, though, and it may well be that the Buckeyes need this one to stay alive in the playoff picture.

Clemson at Florida State – October 29

These are the two teams that are most likely to come out as the champions of the ACC, with Clemson looking to make another run at the National Championship they came so close to winning last season. The Seminoles are always a dangerous bunch at home, and they will feel that they have a chance to kill the Tigers playoff hopes with a win here.

Alabama at LSU – November 5

The defending champions have rebuilt once again, and while there are some question marks at key positions, it’s never really a good idea to doubt any team led by Nick Saban. The Crimson Tide are once again going to have to navigate the shark-infested waters of the SEC West, and this one against the LSU Tigers may be the toughest of all. It’s never easy to go into Death Valley and escape with a win, and if Alabama can do it, they may well set themselves up nicely for another SEC title and playoff appearance.

Oklahoma at Texas – October 8

The Sooners are coming into this season as one of the college football betting odds favorites to win it all, and their ability to do so may well hinge on the first two weeks in October. They will have a pair of trips though Texas to start the month, beginning with the TCU Horned Frogs on the 1st, and then this one a week later. If the Sooners can pull off the Texas double, they may start to be seriously looked at as a legitimate contender.
