Early Road to the Championship: Betting Analysis for College Football’s Top Teams to Watch
Previous Betting News
When you tune into college football this season, the games are going to look the same as they always have, but the reality is that we are heading into a new era in the sport
2024 Betting Odds for Early College Football Championship Contenders | MyBookie College Football
There has been a major shake-up in the conferences, with many teams moving to new spots, but that might well be the least of it. This coming season will see the introduction of a new playoff format, with no less than 12 teams making it into the playoffs this year. This move will give some newfound hope for teams that play in the lesser conferences, as they will now have the chance to win their way in to play alongside the big boys. Whether that will mean postseason upsets remains to be seen, but it may just make things tougher for all involved. With that in mind, let’s look at the current odds to win the National Championship.
Georgia Bulldogs +220
The Bulldogs saw their quest for an unprecedented three-peat come to an end with a loss to Alabama in the SEC Championship Game last season, but don’t let that lead you to believe that the potential dynasty is over. The Dawgs have another top-rated class of players coming into play this season, as well as a QB who now has a full year of experience as a starter under his belt. Make no mistake about it, this is the team to beat in the SEC and potentially all of college football, as they look to be totally stacked from top to bottom. The new 12-team format may offer a little relief for a Georgia team that has a very tough schedule ahead of them.

College Football Latest Line for 2024 Season
Ohio State Buckeyes +450
In each of the last 3 seasons with coach Ryan Day at the helm, the Buckeyes have posted consecutive 11-2 seasons. It’s a record that many teams would die for but given that Ohio State has missed the playoffs in each of those years, it’s one that fans are not entirely comfortable with. It has been an inability to beat Michigan that has left them out in the cold, but with Jim Harbaugh leaving the Wolverines to go back to the NFL, perhaps the door is open for the Buckeyes to once again gain control in the Big Ten. The new format means they will almost certainly be postseason bound, but can they go all the way.

Texas Longhorns +800
Say help to one of the newest members of the SEC, with both Texas and Oklahoma joining the conference this season. They will be looking to build on an excellent 2023 season, where they went to the playoffs before losing to Washington in an absolute thriller in the Sugar Bowl. You can certainly argue that getting back to the playoffs is going to be a good deal tougher given that the SEC is much less forgiving than the Big 12. Still, the Longhorns look equipped to handle that move, and they need to be seen as a threat.

College Football Latest Line for 2024 Season
Oregon Ducks +1000
The Ducks are coming off their best season since 2019, closing out with a 12-2 record after crushing Liberty in the Fiesta Bowl. This season, that record would have been enough to get them into the 12-team playoffs, but last year, they came up short of the postseason. While there are some concerns about moving to a new conference, with the Ducks playing in the Big Ten this season, they still look like a team that could make some noise. Realistically, they will be looking to get to the Conference Championship Game in year one, after which they will take it from there. They still feel like a longshot to me.

Georgia Bulldogs +232
The schedule, like every season, is a cakewalk but UGA must play this season without the leader of their team, Stetson Bennett. Also, although four players along the offensive line have starters experience, the O-line won’t be as dominant, which means the Dawgs must count on their rushing attack, which could pose issues.
Beating Auburn, Kentucky, Ole Miss, and Tennessee will be more difficult than many realize. And even if Georgia makes it to the SEC Championship, Bama or LSU should be waiting for them.

MyBookie Betting Lines for the Championship
Alabama Crimson Tide +580
Alabama doesn’t know who their starting quarterback will be this season. Jalen Milroe has the most starting experience, but Kelvin Sampson has the better pocket presence and can throw a more accurate deep ball.
No matter who starts under center, the Crimson Tide will find it difficult to win the SEC West. Ole Miss will be a decent team. LSU has the chance of being great.
NCAAF Lines: +1000 | Bet Alabama Crimson Tide to Win
MyBookie Betting Lines for the Championship
Ohio State Buckeyes +650
Like Bama, the Buckeyes must replace their starting quarterback from last season. Kyle McCord could end up the starter. Is McCord good enough to lead the offense?
It’s a legit question. Also, Paris Johnson Jr. is now in the NFL. So McCord won’t have the same excellent pass protection that C.J. Stroud got.
NCAAF Lines: +1200 | Bet Ohio State Buckeyes to Win
MyBookie Betting Lines for the Championship
Clemson Tigers +1750
Clemson will be a good team, but they won’t dominate. Also, the schedule is deep with quality opponents this season, which will make it hard for Clemson to win the ACC.
Duke, Florida State, Miami, North Carolina, North Carolina State, and Notre Dame can all beat Clemson. Even if Clemson loses 2-of-6, they will not qualify for the ACC Championship, much less the CFP.

Teams offering overlay odds to win the National Championship
Michigan Wolverines +1000
Michigan should be second choice to win the National Championship. Running back Blake Corum returns. So does quarterback J.J. McCarthy.
The offensive line has a ton of experience. The defense is loaded at every level, especially at secondary where Will Johnson has all-American potential.
NCAAF Lines: +750 | Bet Michigan Wolverines to Win
MyBookie Betting Lines for the Championship
USC Trojans +1475
Lincoln Riley continues to use the transfer portal to rebuild USC’s program. Riley has created a deeper offensive line which will protect Heisman Trophy winner Caleb Williams.
Riley also transferred Bear Alexander, a defensive lineman who played at Georgia last season, and a lot of other very good defenders. USC is a veteran team with a lot of depth. The Trojans should easily win the Pac-12.
NCAAF Lines: +950 | Bet USC Trojans to Win
MyBookie Betting Lines for the Championship
LSU Tigers +1650
So, let’s get this straight. LSU won the SEC West last season, quarterback Jayden Daniels returns, the Tigers’ best defender, Harold Perkins Jr., returns, it’s Brian Kelly’s second season in Baton Rouge, and LSU offers higher odds than Bama to win the title?
It doesn’t make sense, right? If NCAAF Lines on Bama is +1000, NCAAF Lines on LSU is +900.
NCAAF Lines: +900 | Bet LSU Tigers to Win
MyBookie Betting Lines for the Championship
Florida State Seminoles +1825
The Seminoles open the season versus LSU. Even if they lose, FSU will remain in the hunt for the National Championship.
The only other difficult game on the schedule has Florida State traveling to Death Valley to take on Clemson on Sep. 23. North Carolina isn’t on the schedule and Florida won’t be great without Anthony Richardson under center.
If FSU beats LSU, they could go undefeated during the regular season.
NCAAF Lines: +1100 | Bet Florida State Seminoles to Win

The 2018 college football championship may have just concluded with Alabama’s improbable 26-23 overtime comeback win, but if you’re an NCAAF betting aficionado, then you should know that you can already place a wager on the team you like to win it all next season. That’s right collegiate gridiron gamblers, thanks to the recent release of 2019 College Football Championship odds, you can already place a long-term wager on the team or teams you like to win it all next season.
Better yet, thanks to the expert betting advice that you’re about to get on some of the top championship contenders, you’re going to have a great idea of just which teams could likely pull off the upset over their higher favored counterparts.
I’ve identified eight title contenders whose odds are lying between 30/1 and 40/1 that could all pull off the championship over the nation’s top dozen favorites and I’m going to highlight one or two reasons why each team could potentially end up as the 2019 national champion. Now, let’s get started.
Early Betting Contenders for the 2019 National Championship
Washington
2019 National Championship Odds: 30/1
With quarterback Jake Browning coming back and running back Myles Gaskin possibly returning, I see no reason why the Huskies won’t challenge for the Pac-12 title and their second berth in the four-team CFP under widely respected head coach Chris Petersen. UW will also add a new offensive coordinator in Bush Hamdan, currently the Atlanta Falcons quarterbacks coach who played for Petersen at Boise State.
LSU
2019 National Championship Odds: 30/1
The Tigers will contend if only because they have a wealth of talent each and every year. However, for them to get past Alabama, Georgia and probably Auburn, Ed Oregon will have to identify whether Myles Brennan or Lowell Narcisse will be his new starting quarterback and hope the one he chooses plays more like an experienced upperclassman than a first-time starter.
USC
2019 National Championship Odds: 40/1
With Sam Darnold bolting and the Trojans breaking in a new starting quarterback, I just wouldn’t go around expect USC to contend for anything outside of maybe, a Pac-12 title, if that!Virginia Tech
2019 National Championship Odds: 40/1
I love the value that the Hokies are offering heading into 2018 with a really good head coach in Justin Fuente and a gifted quarterback in Josh Jackson that is set to make the leap to stardom next season.Florida State
2019 National Championship Odds: 40/1
The Seminoles will have a new head coach in Willie Taggart, but they’ll also have gifted quarterback Deondre Francois back. Still, expect more of a rebuild under Taggart as opposed to a team shooting for a national championship.
Notre Dame
2019 National Championship Odds: 40/1
Brian Kelly will have to decide if Brandon Wimbush or Ian Kelly is the answer at quarterback, but it’s a pleasant problem for the Irish team that looks like they will contend for a playoff berth next season.
West Virginia
2019 National Championship Odds: 40/1
With star quarterback Will Grier and elite wide receiver David Stills both returning, I love the value that the Mountaineers are offering as a 40/1 pick that looks like they could beat almost anyone with Grier on the field.
Stanford
2019 National Championship Odds: 40/1
If superstar running back Bryce Love returns – and the Cardinals settle on a real difference-maker at quarterback – then Stanford will be much closer to contending for a playoff berth, If Love doesn’t and Stanford head coach David Shaw can’t find a ‘winning quarterback’ you should probably just consider 2018 a rebuilding season.

A Closer Look At The Early 2018 College Football Championship Contenders
Louisville 12-1
I know Louisville head coach Bobby Petrino isn’t the most likable guy around, but he’s got a great offensive mind whether you like him or not. Combine that fact with the play of jaw-dropping Heisman Trophy-winning quarterback Lamar Jackson and it’s easy to see Louisville contending at the very least.
Michigan 12-1
The Wolverines will be stout on defense under head coach Jim Harbaugh and they should be better next season on offense thanks to the maturation of now, unquestioned starting quarterback Wilton Speight.
LSU 12-1
The Tigers took off after firing Les Miles and have high hopes – and a bunch of talent for new head coach Ed Oregeron heading into next season. The Tigers open up against Miami in an intriguing affair next season.
Clemson 18-1
The reigning national champs have a huge hole to fill with the departure f superstar signal-caller Deshaun Watson, but make no mistake about it, head coach Dabo Swinney has turned his program into a perennial title contender.
Penn State 30-1
I’m completely stunned that the Penn State Nittany Lions aren’t a bit higher on the board for their stupendous 2016 season, but no matter, Penn State has a slew of elite high schoolers coming in and return a whopping 16 starters next season, including gifted quarterback Trace McSorley and future NFL star Saquon Barkley, making them my top ‘contender’ to bag next season’s national championship.
