After eking their way past Auburn in Week 1 and squeaking past Troy in Week 2, the Clemson Tigers had a full game against FCS foe South Carolina State in a dominant 59-0. So good were the Tigers that the coaches from both teams agreed to shorten the game. With the momentum from that win, the expectation is that the Tigers will be giving a solid performance against Georgia Tech as Clemson dress-rehearses for a monster showdown against Louisville in Week 5. QB Deshaun Watson and his offense is littered with talent, but after struggling against Auburn and Troy, the Tigers’ offense will need to put up its best of efforts, with the defense also chipping in handily.

Since 2003, the Tigers have not won a game over Tech in Atlanta, something that will definitely be a big motivation for the Yellow Jackets to rally up for a big home show. In addition, Justin Thomas and his playmakers have seemingly stepped up and the O-line is executing better on both pass blocking and run blocking, while the D-line has been decently serviceable on the season so far. That being said, the Yellow Jackets will need to have a clean performance if the dream of upsetting Clemson is to be realized. For one, the Yellow Jackets must find ways of disrupting rhythm in Clemson’s up-tempo offense that can easily run up the score if not contained. On the same vein, Tech’s offense must be ready to go it down and dirty in the battle of the trenches, which was lopsidedly dominated by the Tigers last season.

Last season, Clemson beat Tech at home 43-24, and another win should be in the offing for the Tigers, who are largely unchanged from the solid unit they were last year. Even so, this game will be played in Georgia Tech’s home stadium, a place the Tigers have struggled, so the Jackets should at least be able to hold their own quite well here, assuming history holds true. After all, if the Jackets were able to pull off a 22-16 upset over Florida State as a 5-point underdog at home last season, keeping Clemson close should be within the realms of possibility, especially now that Tech is playing its best football in a long time.
