Written by on February 21, 2017

With the 2017 NCAA football national championship now a thing of the past, collegiate pigskin betting enthusiasts everywhere are starting to look toward the new season and the betting opportunities that are now being offered. To that end, I’m going to offer up my expert look at the odds to win the 2017 Heisman Trophy as the most outstanding player in all of college football betting lines. Let’s get started.

Here’s A Closer Look At The College Football 2017 Heisman Trophy Odds

Last year’s winner of the award, Louisville’s Lamar Jackson, and the No. 3 finisher in the voting, Oklahoma quarterback Baker Mayfield are both tied as co-favorites at +580 while USC Trojans’  quarterback Sam Darnold sits alone as the No. 2 favorite at +650. Ohio State quarterback J.T. Barrett sits alone as a +800 pick while Washington quarterback Jake Browning and Florida State signal-caller Deondre Francois are close behind on the odds list at +1000. Elusive Penn State running back Saquon Barkley is the top non-quarterback on the list at +1200 and is followed on the non-quarterback odds by Alabama running back Bo Scarborough at +1600. Here is the full list of odds to win the 2017 Heisman Trophy

The Favorites

Lamar Jackson (Louisville) +580 Baker Mayfield (Oklahoma) +580 Sam Darnold (USC) +650 J.T. Barrett (Ohio St) +800 Jake Browning (Washington) +1000 Deondre Francois (Florida St) 1000 Saquon Barkley (Penn St) +1200 Jalen Hurts (Alabama) +1200 Mason Rudolph (Oklahoma St) +1200 Josh Rosen (UCLA) +1600 Bo Scarbrough (Alabama) +1600 Derrius Guice (LSU) +1600 Trace McSorley (Penn St) +1600 Analysis: Right now, I’m thinking USC signal-caller Sam Darnold is my pick to win the 2017 Heisman after seeing the way he performed in the Rose Bowl against Penn State to finish off his 2016 campaign. And, speaking of Rose Bowl performers, I also believe Penn State’s Saquon Barkley and Trace McSorley will also both have a great shot – if the Nittany Lions stay in contention for a playoff berth next season while Louisville’s Lamar Jackson will almost surely not win after unleashing a campaign for the ages a year ago that he will almost certainly not be able to duplicate or top. My No. 2 pick to win the 2017 Heisman Trophy is Oklahoma signal-caller Baker Mayfield with my third pick going to Florida State signal-caller Deondre Francois.

The Rest

Arden Key (LSU) +8000 Brandon Wimbush (Notre Dame) +6000 Brett Rypien (Boise St) +8000 Calvin Ridley (Alabama) +8000 Christian Kirk (Texas A&M) +6000 Derwin James (Florida St) +6000 Dexter Lawrence (Clemson) +8000 Ed Oliver (Houston) +6000 Jacob Eason (Georgia) +5000 James Washington (Oklahoma St) +5000 Jarrett Stidham (Auburn) +3300 Justin Herbert (Oregon) +8000 Kamryn Pettway (Auburn) +2500 Kenny Hill (TCU) +8000 Kyle Allen (Houston) +6000 Luke Falk (Washington St) +2500 Mike Weber (Ohio St) +4000 Myles Gaskin (Washington) +6000 Nick Chubb (Georgia) +2500 Nick Fitzgerald (Miss St) +3300 Quinton Flowers (South Florida) +3300 Royce Freeman (Oregon) +4000Shane Buechele (Texas) +3300 Shea Patterson (Mississippi) +8000 Wilton Speight (Michigan St) +6000 Analysis: Out of this group, I love Washington running back Myles Gaskin but, unfortunately, I think he might get overshadowed by teammate Jake Browning while I also say keep an eye on underrated Washington State quarterback Luke Falk.
