Despite losing a handful of outstanding defensive stars to this summer’s 2016 NFL Draft, Alabama Crimson Tide has remained utterly dominant on the defensive side of the ball and that alone may be reason enough to place a futures odds wager on the Tide. Alabama is ranked second nationally in total defense (260.0 ypg), first against the run (69.3 ypg) and second in points allowed (12.2 ppg). The Tide have held a whopping seven opponents to 10 points or less this season, including USC and SEC rivals, Tennessee and LSU. The Tide are led by superstar defensive lineman Jonathan Allen, but have several other standout defensive stars that can and do make plays all over the field. Of course, it’s kind of easy to be an elite head coach when you constantly get a handful of the best high school players in the country, but hey, some other schools get almost as many elite players and haven’t been able to duplicate Saban’s perennial dominance. In almost every game they play, Alabama has a decisive coaching edge with Nick Saban on the sideline.  

Blossoming Quarterback

While quarterback Jalen Hurts was playing in high school just one year ago, the talented freshman is clearly going to be a bigger star in the future than he already is right now. Hurts has completed an impressive 64.1 percent of his passes this season while throwing for 2,003 yards with 15 TD passes and a respectable seven interceptions. Hurst is also dual threat with the fleet-footed freshman rushing for an additional 735 yards and 11 touchdowns while averaging a healthy 5.8 yards per carry.
