Wisconsin

The sixth-ranked Badgers (8-2 SU, 8-2 ATS) have won four straight games and looked as good as they have all season in their emphatic 48-3 blowout win over Illinois last weekend. Not only that, but Wisconsin has won 10 of their last 11 road games coming into this Big Ten mismatch. Young quarterback Alex Hornibrook is still improving despite completing a modest 57.4 percent of his passes for 1,125 yards with seven touchdowns and an identical seven interceptions. The Badgers are averaging 26.2 points per game to rank 84th nationally. Receivers Jazz Peavy and Robert Wheelwright have combined for 902 receiving yards and five touchdowns while running back Corey Clement has rushed for a team-high 928 yards and 10 touchdowns. Defensively, the Wisconsin Badgers have been one of the best teams in the nation in limiting their opponents to just 12.7 points per game to rank fourth nationally as linebacker T.J. Watt has recorded seven sacks.

Purdue

The lowly Boilermakers (3-7 SU, 4-5-1 ATS) have lost five straight and looked completely incompetent in their 45-17 Week 11 loss against Northwestern while failing to cover the college football betting line as a 13-point underdog. Purdue averages a modest 25.1 points per game to rank 91st nationally in scoring as quarterback David Blough has completed  58.1 percent of his passes for 2,921 yards with 21 touchdowns but a high, 16 interceptions. Receivers DeAngelo Yancey and Bilal Marshall have combined for 1,142 receiving yards and 10 touchdowns while running back Markell Jones has rushed for a team-high 551 yards and three touchdowns. Defensively, Purdue is giving up a whopping38.4 points per game to rank a pitiful 120th nationally.

Expert Prediction and Pick

I know the Boilermakers are coming off a 28-point loss to Northwestern on Saturday and that they’ve looked pretty awful recently, but the Badgers only average 1.1 points per game more than the Boilermakers offensively and have beaten their longtime Big Ten rivals by more than 27.5 points just three times in the last 10 meetings. While Purdue has gone 1-6-1 ATS in its last eight home games and Wisconsin has gone 6-1 ATS in its last seven games, I’m going with the Boilermakers to narrowly cover the high spread against a Wisconsin team that is elite defensively, but only average offensively.
