Michigan Wolverines | To Win National Championship
Why Michigan will win the National Championship
The Wolverines are senior laden squad that made it all the way to the College Football Playoff last season. Michigan boasts talent across the board.
Quarterback J.J. McCarthy is one of the more reliable signal-callers in college football. Running back Blake Corum might be the best rusher in football, and the offense line is as solid as it gets.
Not only that, but Michigan gets their head coach, Jim Harbaugh, back from a suspension. Harbaugh will coach the Wolverines in the Big Ten Championship and the College Football Playoff.
Why Michigan won’t win the National Championship
Michigan has made it to the CFP in two straight seasons. But although Michigan has had success stamping their ticket to the College Football Playoff, they have yet to win it all.
Michigan hasn’t even won their semifinal matchup. The Wolverines didn’t have much chance versus Georgia in the 2021-2022 CFP. But in the 2022-2023 College Football Playoff, Michigan was a favorite to beat TCU.
Instead of beating the Horned Frogs, the Wolverines failed big time when allowing TCU to score 51 points in a 51-45 loss.
In addition, heading into the Big Ten Championship, Michigan’s top offensive lineman, Zak Zinter, is injured. Whether Zinter recovers in time to take on one of the other top four teams in the nation in the CFP remains to be seen.
Georgia Bulldogs | To Win National Championship
Why Georgia will win the National Championship
The Bulldogs will be looking for the three-peat, which gives the nation’s top-ranked team motivation. UGA hasn’t just beaten opponents this season, they’ve dominated.
The defense looks as good as ever. But the real reason to like Georgia is because of how Carson Beck has developed. Beck has turned into one of the nation’s top quarterbacks.
Beck completes over 72% of his passes. He’s thrown for 22 TDs to just 6 picks and has thrown for 3,495 yards. Most of Beck’s throws go to Brock Bowers, arguably the best player at any position this season.
Why Georgia won’t win the National Championship
Georgia has played great football throughout this season, but the Dawgs have yet to face a team close to Alabama’s skill level. Victories over Missouri, Tennessee, and Ole Miss were nice.
None of those three teams possess the talent that the Bulldogs will face in the SEC Championship on December 2. And then if the Bulldogs get by the Crimson Tide, a team like Michigan, Oregon, or Washington is likely to face off against them in the title game.
That’s not to say Georgia doesn’t have the talent to win the championship. It is to say that unlike Oregon and Alabama, the Dawgs aren’t as battle-tested. So UGA could find the sledding difficult.
Oregon Ducks | To Win National Championship
Why Oregon will win the National Championship
Oregon boasts the best quarterback in college football, Bo Nix. No doubt, fans in LSU claim their quarterback, Jayden Daniels, is better.
Based on stats, Jayden has had a better season. But Nix plays for a much better overall team. So Bo hasn’t had to post ridiculous stats in every game.
What Nix has been able to do is manage an offense that includes a bevy of playmakers, including the slippery and super quick Bucky Irving.
Irving averages 6.4 yards per carry. Bucky can also catch the ball out of the backfield. He often mustn’t use his pass-catching skills because Oregon’s starting wideouts, Troy Franklin and Tez Johnson, are dynamite.
Why Oregon won’t win the National Championship
The defense is good. However, it commits a lot of penalties. Many of the penalties of are of the 15-yards personal foul nature, which means Oregon’s D gives up chunks of yardage for no other reason than over aggressiveness.
Being aggressive isn’t a bad thing. Being over aggressive isn’t always a killer. Still, there’s a massive difference between 15-yard penalties versus Colorado or Arizona State and 15-yard penalties against Alabama, Michigan, or Georgia.
Alabama Crimson Tide | To Win National Championship
Why Alabama will win the National Championship
After a toe stub versus the Texas Longhorns, Alabama has bounced back big time. The Crimson Tide is on a 1-game winning streak. During the streak, Bama has gone 7-3 against the spread.
The keys to Alabama’s turnaround has been the play of quarterback Jalen Milroe and the best secondary in college football. Milroe has become one of the top dual-threat quarterbacks, if not the overall best, in college football.
The 6’ 2” 220 pounds quarterback averages over 10 yards per completion. He’s rushed for 12 touchdowns and has thrown for 21 with just 6 interceptions.
The Bama secondary has produced 12 interceptions this season. Cornerback Terrion Arnold is a top five NFL Draft pick. Arnold has 5 picks. Kool-Aid McKinstry has zero but that’s because McKinstry, a for sure first round NFL Draft pick, shuts down his side of the field ala Dein Sanders back in the 1990s.
Why Alabama won’t win the National Championship
Alabama has improved for sure, but have they improved enough? The Crimson Tide faces their absolute best opponent of the season in rival Georgia in the SEC Championship.
The last time Bama took on the Dawgs, Georgia blasted Alabama 33-18 in the 2022 National Championship. The Tide hasn’t faced as good of a team since then.
This season, Georgia is the best team Bama will have faced since losing to Texas in their second game. So although Bama has looked great in wins against Tennessee, Ole Miss, Mississippi State, and Kentucky, the Bulldogs are a different squad.
Also, unlike Georgia, Bama must beat the Bulldogs to secure a CFP spot. Georgia is a lock to make it to the College Football Playoff win or lose. But if Alabama loses to the Dawgs, their CFP dreams are dashed.
CFP National Championship Betting Analysis
Top Pick: Alabama Crimson Tide +800
Although Nick Saban’s bunch appears to have a lot of things against them, Alabama is still the top pick to win the College Football National Championship and it’s not just because of the odds.
Alabama is playing football better than any team in the nation. More importantly, they’re the most improved team among the top four title contenders based on odds.
Also, if you believe in destiny, Bama is your choice. The Tide faced a fourth and goal on Auburn’s 32-yard-line. Jalen Milroe throw one of the most incredible passes you will ever see, dropping it into a small window, Jermaine Burke caught it, and Alabama went on to beat their archrivals.

Second Choice: Oregon Ducks +500
Oregon is on a mission. Ever since a regular season loss to 4-Washington, the Ducks have focused on a single goal, getting to the P0ac-12 Championship, and then stamping their ticket to the College Football Playoff.
A victory over Washington should happen on Friday night. Then it will be a matter of where the Selection Committee places the Ducks.
Dan Lanning’s squad is loaded on both sides of the football. If the defense plays smart, Oregon should challenge any team it faces in the CFP. Bo Nix has a ton of college football experience. So Nix will have an experience edge over Beck, Milroe, and even McCarthy, should the predicted final four end up the College Football Playoff participants.
CFP National Championship Second Pick: Oregon Ducks +500 | Bet Oregon to Win Championship
MyBookie Betting Lines for the Championship
Third Choice: Georgia Bulldogs +210
Georgia will make it to the College Football Playoff for sure. However, the Bulldogs aren’t as strong this season as they have been in the last couple of seasons.
For starters, although Carson Beck is a great quarterback, it remains to be seen if he has Stetson Bennett’s it factor. Bennett willed his team to victory over the Ohio State Buckeyes in last season’s semifinal.
Also, UGA’s defense this season doesn’t appear as good as it was in 2022-2023. There is no Jalen Carter, no Nakobe Dean, no Nolan Smith. If Georgia faces a team like Oregon in the CFP, will be difficult for the Dawgs to keep the Ducks from moving the football and scoring touchdowns.
CFP National Championship Third Pick: Georgia Bulldogs +210 | Bet Georgia to Win Championship
MyBookie Betting Lines for the Championship
Fourth Choice: Michigan Wolverines +190
The Wolverines are a solid college football team, but Michigan always fails in the College Football Playoff. One of the reasons could be because the Wolverines emphasize beating Ohio State.
Then after beating Ohio State, Michigan gets a breather against a team like Iowa, or Purdue in the Big Ten Championship. So by the time the College Football Playoff Semifinal comes around, Michigan has gotten into let’s relax mode.
You can’t relax against teams like Georgia, Alabama, and Oregon. Maybe, this College Football Playoff, the Maize and Blue is as intense as their opponent in the semifinal and then carries that intensity into the championship game. Betting Michigan at +190 to find out if it happens is asking a lot.

Early College Football National Championship Odds
- Alabama Crimson Tide +192
- Georgia Bulldogs +350
- Ohio State Buckeyes +390
- Clemson Tigers +1200
- Texas A&M Aggies +2300
- USC Trojans +2600
- Oklahoma Sooners +3000
- Michigan Wolverines +3800
- Notre Dame Fighting Irish +4600
- Oregon Ducks +5400
- Wisconsin Badgers +5600
- Utah Utes +5600
- Oklahoma State Cowboys +6200
- Texas Longhorns +6400
Top Pick: Alabama Crimson Tide +192
It’s never fun to put Alabama on top. But like in most off seasons, Nick Saban reloaded. He reloaded more this past off season because the Tide fell to Georgia in the National Championship.
Quarterback Bryce Young won the Heisman. He doesn’t get to throw to Jameson Williams and John Metchie III, but he does get to throw to Jermaine Burton, a wideout transfer from, get this, Georgia.
Running back Jahmyr Gibbs transfers from Georgia Tech. Gibbs averaged 5.2 yards per carry last season for the Yellow Jackets. He could average the same playing behind a Bama line that returns 3 starters.
Will Anderson Jr. finished fifth in Heisman voting. The linebacker ranks first ahead of Young on Mel Kiper Jr.’s 2023 NFL Draft board. Dallas Turner plays on the other side of Anderson and Henry To’oTo’o is as solid of a linebacker as it gets.
Again, nobody likes backing chalk, but Bama looks ready to roll. Alabama is the early pick to win the National Championship.
Second Pick: Georgia Bulldogs +350
Georgia is a decent pick to finish second. The schedule is amazingly light. Sure, the Dawgs open the season against Oregon on Sep. 3, but the game happens in Atlanta.
Not only that, but the road games are at South Carolina, at Missouri, at Mississippi State, and at Kentucky. Mississippi State and Kentucky are decent teams. They aren’t as good as Georgia.
The Bulldogs’ offense should be very good. Stetson Bennett is a National Championship winning quarterback. Bennett should play great because UGA returns three of five starters.
The defense must replace 8 starters. Jalen Carter, though, might be the defensive lineman in the country. Kelee Ringo should shut down most opponents’ top wide receiver and linebackers Robert Beal Jr. and Nolan Smith decided to not go to the NFL.
Even if UGA’s D doesn’t gel until the midway point of the season, Georgia figures to go undefeated. The schedule is that soft.
Third Pick: Ohio State Buckeyes +390
It’s impossible to leave Ohio State out of the mix. First, the Buckeyes have a tougher schedule than both Alabama and Georgia.
Ohio State opens against Notre Dame, travels to Penn State and Michigan State, and takes on Michigan, Iowa, and Wisconsin. What some see as a detriment, the Buckeyes see as an advantage.
While UGA and Bama must be perfect, Ohio State can stumble once and still clock a spot to the College Football Playoff. Almost as important, Ohio State can play their way into the CFP.
If the Buckeyes go undefeated, no team will have as good of a College Football Playoff resume as Ohio State. But although the Buckeyes are a good pick to make it to the CFP, we shouldn’t kid ourselves.
The defense will not stand up to Alabama’s offense. Also, by playoff time, Georgia’s defense will have gelled, meaning the Bulldogs will find a way to contain QB C.J. Stroud and WR Jaxon Smith-Njigba.
Top Underdog Pick: USC Trojans +2600
Lincoln Riley ditched Oklahoma and decided to go to SoCal. But Riley didn’t stop by just accepting USC’s top job.
Riley also convinced Oklahoma starting quarterback Caleb Miller to join him. Then, Riley transferred Romello Height from Alabama to play linebacker and receiver Jordan Addison, this past season’s Biletnikoff winner, to spread the field.
Lincoln is running his team more like Premier League power Manchester City than a college football program. Will it work? It should.
Alex Grinch, Riley’s defensive coordinator at Oklahoma, also took the bus to Trojan Town. Also, the schedule is more than workable. Road games versus Stanford and Utah could pose a challenge.
So could a home game against Notre Dame. But USC has talent on both sides of the football and now the Trojans have one of the best coaches in college ball on their sideline. USC can win the title in Riley’s first season.
