Games That Can Change the NCAA Playoff Odds

Written by on August 12, 2016

The College Football Playoff set-up is proving to be a huge hit with football fans, as though two extra spots can give teams a shot at a National Championship that they might otherwise have just missed out on. Every game is important, but there are some that can have a major bearing on who get in, and who has to settle for one of the lesser bowl games. There are a number of games on the schedule this season that could potentially have a major impact on the playoffs, as well as the online college football odds. Let’s take a moment to look at a few of the games that could affect your chances of cashing a winning ticket.

Games That Can Potentially Change The College Football Playoff Odds

Houston vs Oklahoma – Sept 3

These two teams are very much considered to be real dark horses by the football pundits this season, and both are stating their intent by opening up with a tough one. There aren’t a lot of folks who believe that a team out of the American Athletic Conference could have a shot at a playoff berth, but if the Houston Cougars can go unbeaten this season, which is likely with a win here and against Louisville, they may just upset the odds.

Ohio State vs Oklahoma – Sept 17

The Sooners have not done themselves any favors in the early part of the season, but with a host of starters returning from 2015, they feel that this is their year, and they are out to impress the Playoff Committee with some signature wins. The Buckeyes should be coming into this one unbeaten, but if they are knocked off here, we could well see their odds plummet, while the Sooners edge a little closer to the favorites in the college football betting odds.

Michigan at Michigan State – Oct 29

The match-up between these two teams last season was one for the age, with Michigan State Spartans somehow stealing the win in the final seconds when it looked like they were dead and buried. Fans have been waiting for the rematch from the moment that game ended, and this year’s version may yet prove to be even more dramatic. Both of these teams figure to be in the top 10 all season long, and this may very well be the game that decides if either of them will have done enough to impress the Playoff Committee.

Alabama at LSU – Nov 5

Anyone who follows college football knows that the SEC has been the dominant conference for quite some time now. It is possible for teams in the SEC to lose a game and still be very much in the playoff picture, such is the level of competition. Losing two games is a problem, though, and if either of these teams comes into this on with a loss under their belt, they will know that a defeat here would likely mean the end of the road in the National Championship race. This game may not just change the betting odds, it may also decide who wins the SEC West.
