There is a lot of talk about the decline of the SEC this season, with many people believing that there is no-one who can touch the Alabama Crimson Tide in this conference. While it is certainly true that the SEC is not the powerhouse it was just a few short years ago, it may be a little too early to crown Alabama conference champions, as the NCAAF lines for Week 5 indicates.
Sure, we are only 4 weeks into the season, but I think it’s fair to suggest that a legitimate contender to the SEC crown is rising. Last year, the first under new head coach Kirby Smart, was a down year for the Dawgs, as Smart made the first moves in recruiting and setting up his system. It appears that his efforts have paid off, as the Bulldogs look like a legitimate contender. They have had two massive games this season, and have delivered the goods in both, winning on the road at Notre Dame in Week 2, and then destroying Mississippi State between the hedges last weekend. The Georgia defense looks totally dominant, and sophomore QB Jake Fromm, who was asked to step in after Jacob Eason went down in Week 1, is becoming more comfortable with each passing week. Georgia is 3-1 ATS this season, and while they have lost back to back games against the Volunteers, they are certainly favorites to break out of that winless streak.
