Why Bet on Indiana versus Penn State

Although the Hoosiers have almost zero chance of winning straight up, Indiana gets to work with 31 points. The Hoosiers only lost to Ohio State by 16 in a 23-7 defeat.

Indiana hung with Louisville in a 21-14 loss. Maryland beat Indiana 44-17 and Rutgers beat the Hoosiers 31-14. The only team Indiana fell against that covered a 31-point type spread was Michigan, the second ranked team in the nation.

If the Hoosiers could do enough to lose to Ohio State by only 16 and Louisville by just 7, Indiana can definitely keep any loss to Penn State at less than 31 points.

Indiana Hoosiers Offensive Averages

  • Total Yards: 311.7
  • Passing Yards: 198.0
  • Rushing Yards: 113.7
  • Points Scored: 17.9
  • Turnovers: 5

Indiana Hoosiers Defensive Averages

  • Total Yards: 369.0
  • Passing Yards: 191.7
  • Rushing Yards: 177.3

Why Bet on Penn State versus Indiana

It took a team like the third ranked Buckeyes to hand Penn State their first loss of the season. The Nittany Lions played Ohio State tough.

The Lions entered halftime versus the Buckeyes down by four points, 10 to 6. After a third quarter where neither squad scored, Ohio State pulled away by scoring 10 to Penn State’s 6 in the fourth.

Penn State’s defense got tired. It makes sense why because although Drew Allar is a good quarterback, he’s just a freshman. Allar didn’t throw a pick, which tells us he played a decent game.

Penn State Nittany Lions Offensive Averages

  • Total Yards: 400.0
  • Passing Yards: 218.7
  • Rushing Yards: 181.3
  • Points Scored: 39.7
  • Turnovers: 3

Penn State Nittany Lions Defensive Averages

  • Total Yards: 218.7
  • Passing Yards: 147.0
  • Rushing Yards: 71.7
  • Points Scored: 9.7
  • Takeaways: 7

Penn State versus Indiana Final Betting Prediction

We should expect the Nittany Lions to unleash Allar against Indiana. So far, Penn State’s coaches have called plays that keep Drew out of harm’s way. But the Hoosiers are a different team than Ohio State. So opening the playbook, and allowing Allar to let loose, could lead to a Penn State win and cover.

Allar went 18-of-42 for 191 yards and a TD versus Ohio State. Not throwing a pick was positive but averaging just 4.5 yards per completion was a disaster.

More importantly, because Penn State had yet to allow Allar to take chances, Ohio State concentrated on stopping the rush, which is why the Lions averaged 1.9 yards per carry.

Penn State head coach James Franklin knows that he must allow Allar to develop into a legit passing quarterback, which means Frankling and the coaching staff can’t continue to handle Drew with kid’s gloves.

Allar will throw bombs on Saturday. The Nittany Lions D will hold the Hoosiers to 0 to 3 points and the Penn State Nittany Lions cover the massive spread.
