Iowa State At Texas College Football Expert Predictions

Written by on October 12, 2016

Taking control of a sleeping giant team in college football can either turn out to be a blessing or a curse. In Miami, Mark Richt has very quickly made the Hurricanes relevant again, while in Texas, Charlie Strong has struggled, and now is sitting very much on the coaching hot seat. This was a season that started out in very promising fashion for the Longhorns, as they came out and won their opening two games, including a stunning 50-47 win over Notre Dame in Week 1. It has been all downhill from there, though, and there are some who suggest that a loss for Texas this weekend, which would be their fourth in a row, may spell the end of the road for Coach Strong. This is a game that you would ordinarily expect Texas, a 13.5-point betting odds favorite, to win, but when you have this much pressure being piled on a program, it’s tough to predict what will happen. That said, we are going to try and come up with a winning prediction right here.

In Depth Analysis On The Cyclones At Longhorns College Football Expert Predictions

Why bet on the Iowa State Cyclones

The Iowa State Cyclones have done well against Texas in the last couple of seasons, winning 24-0 last year, and losing a close one 48-45 the last time they made the trip to Austin. Iowa State are a team in transition right now, and while their 1-5 record would suggest that things are not going particularly well, the reality is that this team is starting to show some real promise. The offense in particular is starting to click, and is averaging 39 PPG in their last 3 outings. There are still some defensive issues to deal with, but the Cyclones will know that the Texas D has been brutal of late, which means they should be able to get points on the board.

Why bet on the Texas Longhorns

Texas are a team that can score whenever they feel like it, but the problem here is that they usually find themselves in a position of having to score quickly in order to overcome defensive frailties. If you throw out the 41-7 win over UTEP, the Longhorns defense is giving up an average of 48 PPG, which isn’t going to win you an awful lot of football games. They have given up over 300 yards through the air in each of their last 3 games, so you can expect the Cyclones to take some deep shots during the course of this one. Texas still has the more talented collection of players, and that may be enough to carry them to the finish line on Saturday.

Expert Pick and Final Score Prediction

I think we are going to see these two teams trading blows for three quarters of football on Saturday, but I like Texas to pull away late. Look for a high scoring game here, and a Longhorns win.
