Iowa State Cyclones Season Rundown: Props and What they will Win this Season 2024/25

With the playoffs expanding to 12 teams this season, the feeling is that things might be about to get a little more competitive.

Gone are the days when a single loss meant the end of the road for most teams, as those extra spots make things a little more forgiving.

My Analysis

With the changes to the conferences, too, things might be a little more difficult to predict.

Will the teams who move have a hard time adapting to their new conference home, allowing the non-moving teams to potentially thrive?

One conference that looks a little more open is the Big 12, as Texas and Oklahoma moving to the SEC may well have opened a door for one of the other conference members.

Will the Iowa State Cyclones be in the conversation? Let’s take a closer look.

Iowa State Cyclones Regular Season, Conference, and Win Total

It has been an up and down few years for the Iowa State Cyclones, with the 2022 season being a particular low.

They ended that season with a 4-8 record, missing out on a bowl spot, too. Things looked bleak, but they managed to bounce back with a 7-6 record last season, although they did end up losing to Memphis in the Liberty Bowl.

The question now is whether they can take another step forward this season. The bookies don’t seem to think they will, as they have the Cyclone’s win total set at 7 ½.

Cyclones fans are sure to be excited about the sophomore season for QB Rocco Becht, who took the Big 12 Rookie of the Year award in 2023.

If he can avoid the sophomore slump that often hits players, he is going to be fun to watch, especially when you consider that he has some nice weapons to work with. This is an offense that should be balanced if running back Abu Sama III can continue this season the way he finished last year.

He was a beast in the second half of the season. It is going to be interesting to see how new offensive coordinator Taylor Mouser will get the most out of a talented group.

The Cyclones defense has a ton of starters returning for the new season, but the big knock on this group is that they don’t tend to get a ton of pressure on opposing QBs, thanks in large part to playing with a 3-man front.

Their secondary is strong, though, so they may be able to limit splash plays. The Cyclones are somewhat in the middle of the pack at odds of +950 to win the Big 12, but they might be worth a look as a potential dark horse.

Iowa State Cyclones Postseason Odds

Realistically, making it to the Big 12 Conference Championship Game seems like the most realistic goal for the Cyclones.

They would probably need to find a way to get to 10 wins for that to happen, which doesn’t seem likely if you trust the win total put in place by the bookies this season.

I honestly would be surprised to see the Cyclones make the playoffs, with their odds of winning it all currently sitting at odds of +30000.
