Kansas vs Oklahoma NCAA Football Week 12 Lines & Pick

Written by on November 14, 2018

No. 6 Oklahoma could punch its ticket to the Big 12 Championship Game for the second straight year assuming it beats awful Kansas on Saturday and the Sooners get a bit of help elsewhere. This shouldn’t be close with OU favored by more than five TDs at the latest College Football Betting Odds.

Last Season

The Sooners crushed KU 41-3 last year because they almost always do. You may remember then-Oklahoma QB Baker Mayfield was caught grabbing his crotch and cursing at the Kansas sideline following a TD pass – his third and last of the game. Everything began when Mayfield tried shaking hands with Daniel Wise, Dorance Armstrong Jr., and Joe Dineen Jr. after the coin toss, but they stared stoically back at him. Mayfield quickly pulled his hand away.

Oklahoma is 75-27-6 (.722) all-time against Kansas and has won 13 straight in the series. It is OU’s longest active winning streak against an opponent.

Why Bet on Kansas?

KU already has fired coach David Beaty but he’s finishing out the season. The Jayhawks are off a 21-17 loss to rival Kansas State. Coming out of halftime, Kansas State stole the momentum scoring on its first drive of the second half. The Wildcats went on to outscore KU, 21-14, in the latter half, but it was turnovers and penalties late in the fourth quarter that prevented the Jayhawks from getting back into the end zone.

Kansas senior wide receiver Steven Sims Jr. finished the day with 113 receiving yards, recording his eighth career 100-yard receiving game and first of the 2018 season. Senior quarterback Peyton Bender threw for 232 yards and two touchdowns at K-State, surpassing Jordan Webb in career passing yards with 3,177 and Dylan Smith in career passing touchdowns with 22. KU limited the Wildcats to just 15 rushing yards in the opening 30 minutes, which is the least given up in a half in 2018. Kansas State also ran just 20 plays in the first half, which was also a season-low for the KU defense.

Bender is moving up in the KU record books, despite only having two seasons in the Crimson and Blue. Bender currently ranks ninth on KU’s all-time passing chart with 3,177 yards. Additionally, Bender currently ranks fourth in the Big 12 Conference single-season record books for interception percentage (0.8) and tied for ninth for touchdown-to-interception ratio (6.0) for his efforts in 2018. Bender has completed 146-of-259 passes for 12 touchdowns while throwing just two interceptions.

Tailback Pooka Williams Jr. is the first true freshman in the Big 12 with 600+ rushing yards and 200+ receiving yards since Corey Avery also did so for Kansas in 2014. He leads the Big 12 Conference and ranks 13th in the FBS in all-purpose yards. Williams is averaging 137.0 all-purpose yards per game, which ranks second among true freshman in the FBS.

Sims Jr. is approaching several career milestones. He currently ranks second in career receiving yards (2,520) and career touchdown receptions (19). Sims ranks third in career receptions (203).

Why Bet on Oklahoma?

OU escaped rival OSU last week 48-47 when the Cowboys went for 2 after a late TD and didn’t convert. Kyler Murray passed for 349 yards and ran for 66. The Sooners continued their push for a Big 12 title and a spot in the College Football Playoff by winning their 15th consecutive November game dating to 2014. Kennedy Brooks ran for 165 yards and three touchdowns, Trey Sermon ran for 124 yards and two scores and Marquise Brown caught eight passes for 142 yards and a score for the Sooners (9-1, 6-1 Big 12).

Still, the defense continues to struggle as OSU generated 39 first downs, which is the most any team has put up on an FBS defense this season. OSU produced an astounding 20 first downs on first-and-10 alone. All told, the Cowboys finished with 640 yards of offense and averaged a whopping 7.4 yards per play.

Kansas vs Oklahoma is one of the best NCAA Football Week 12 Games.

For just the second time in the last 10 seasons, OU has scored at least 48 points in four straight games. It also reached the 48-point mark in four consecutive contests in 2015. OU is the nation’s only team this year with at least 30 rushing touchdowns (31) and at least 30 passing TDs (33).

In Big 12 play, Murray leads the league in total offense (405.0 ypg; next most is 329.7), passing offense (336.9 ypg; next is 314.3), pass efficiency rating (216.6; next is 168.5), completion percentage (72.3; next is 68.6) and total touchdowns (28; next is 23).

The Sooners have won 31 of their last 33 games (.939) against Big 12 opponents dating back to the 2015 season. Their only two losses during that span came at the hands of Iowa State on Oct. 7 last year (38-31 in Norman) and Texas this season (48-45 in Dallas). Eighteen of those 30 victories have been by at least 15 points, and nine by at least 30 points. OU has won 15 straight November games (last loss on Nov. 8, 2014). Since the start of the 2000 season, the Sooners are 59-11 (.843) in the month.
