College sports are a little odd in that some schools are known for their dominance in football, while others put the majority of their focus into basketball. There are a rare few who excel in both sports, but that doesn’t mean that they don’t try to be well-rounded across the board. The reality, though, is that recruiting the best players is tougher when you are a school known more for basketball than football. That is the situation for the Kentucky, who are much better known for their success on the hard court than the football field. It also doesn’t help when they are trying to compete with some of the bigger schools in the SEC. They look to have another tough road ahead of them in 2023, so here’s the preview for your college football betting lines to win the NCAA National Championship.

The Wildcats in 2022
The Wildcats went into last season surrounded by some real hype after a 10-win season the year prior. Things did not go according to plan, though, thanks in large part to a misfiring offense that certainly did not live up to the preseason hype. It was their inability to move the ball consistently and put points on the board that killed the Wildcats season before it even had a chance to begin. They ended the season with a 7-5 record that included a loss to Iowa in the Music City Bowl, snapping a string of 4-straight bowl wins. They have been busy in the transfer portal as they look to improve that offense, as well as other areas where they came up short in 2022.
Betting Odds for the Wildcats in 2023
If we are being realistic here, the one bet that you will probably want to focus on with the Wildcats is the win total, which is currently set at 6 ½. That seems like a number that the Wildcats could certainly hit, as they have had 7 or more wins in 6 of the last 7 seasons, which includes a pair of 10-win seasons during that stretch. I think double-digit wins seems like a bridge too far, but 7 is attainable.
Okay, so now that we have the win total figured out, or at least hope we do, it’s time to turn our sights to the SEC. Right now, Georgia and Tennessee look to be the teams to catch in the East Division, and Kentucky don’t really have the personnel to seriously challenge the best in their division. In terms of the conference overall, the bookies have the Wildcats down near the bottom of the pack at odds of +10000, which should give you some idea of just how far off the pace they are with their current squad of players.
I think the Kentucky Wildcats have a shot at improving on their performance from last season, but asking for more than a winning season and a spot in a bowl game seems like a little too much. This is a team that has been in a bowl game in each of the last 7 seasons, so that is likely what we can expect from them again in 2023.
