The Hawaii Rainbow Warriors covered the spread in their opener last week just as I predicted. Hawaii is back in action after losing to Cal Friday night in Australia, but the Rainbow Warriors managed to narrowly cover the spread as a 21.5-point underdog. Ikaika Woolsey passed for 231 yards with one touchdown and one interception while Marcus Kemp and John Ursua have combined for 143 receiving yards and one touchdown score. The Hawaii Rainbow Warriors rushed for 248 yards in the loss, but gave up an insane 51 points and 630 yards in the loss to Cal.

Michigan Wolverines is playing at home against a completely inferior opponent. The Wolverines will have a new starting quarterback in former Houston starter John O’Korn, but he has an experienced trio of receivers that combined for 159 catches, 2,145 yards and 17 touchdowns last season in All-American tight end Jake Butt, All-Big Ten wideout Jehu Chesson and fifth-year senior Amara Darboh. Michigan returns four of its five starting offensive linemen but needs to improve a rushing attack that ranked a modest 85th last season. Leading rusher De’Veon Smith is back for his senior season after rushing for a team-high 753 yards in 2015. The Wolverines have a new defensive coordinator with Harbaugh hiring Boston College architect Don Brown the job after D.J. Durkin left for Maryland. Defensively, Michigan ranked fourth in the nation in points allowed (16.4 ppg) and returns a unit that is almost virtually intact, starting with All-America cornerback Jourdan Lewis and All-America hybrid safety/linebacker Jabrill Peppers.

The Rainbow Warriors are 2-5 ATS in their last seven non-conference games and 1-10 ATS in their last 11 games overall, but the Michigan Wolverines are just 2-8 ATS in their last 10 games in September and a discouraging 1-5 ATS in their last six games against teams from the Mountain West Conference. Call me crazy – but Hawaii covered for me last week and I believe they will do so again, this time as a mind-boggling 41-point underdog.  Sure, the Rainbow Warriors don’t play much defense, but they can get in the end zone against anyone, even Michigan.
