As good as the Georgia Bulldogs have been over the years, a National Championship eluded them since last winning it back in 1980. That drought came to an end last season with a win over the Alabama Crimson Tide in the title game. As great as that win was, there are negatives that come with that success, the most important of which is the number of talented players heading out the door to go play in the NFL. The Bulldogs lost a ton of starters, but like any elite program, they have s slew of 5-star guys ready to fill those slots. You can never really predict how these new guys will fit in, but let’s not forget that a lot of pundits were looking at the Georgia D as a weak spot last year, and we all know how that turned out. The big question is whether this team can go again, and whether or not they are a legitimate contender. Let’s take a look and see so you can continue planning your bets against the NCAA Football National Championship Odds.
Are the Georgia Bulldogs a Good Betting Pick and a True Contender this Season?
Georgia Regular Season 2022
A quick look at the regular season schedule and you see week after week of winnable games for the Bulldogs. You could potentially argue that their toughest test will come in Week 1 when they take on the Oregon Ducks. While that is considered a neutral site game, the fact that it will be in Atlanta means that it is essentially a home game for the Dawgs. The other game that potentially stands out as a potential banana peel comes against the Florida Gators in what is also a neutral site game.
Outside of those games, it’s hard to see where the Georgia Bulldogs might slip up, so it’s easy to understand why the bookies have their win total for the 2022 season set at 10 ½. This was a team that won all 12 last year, so even of they do slip up in one of those tougher games, they should still be able to go OVER that total. I would certainly be making that wager.
Conference and Playoffs
I think that taking the Bulldogs to win the SEC East is a pretty safe bet, especially when you consider that there doesn’t look to be a real serious challenger on that side. The Florida Gators might be better this season and Kentucky might be a handful again, but they both still seem to be well off from seriously contending with the Dawgs in the East. A division win means a trip to the SEC Conference Championship Game, where we are looking at a potential rematch with the Alabama Crimson Tide. Georgia is at +149 to win the conference, while Alabama are the favorites are at -142.
This is where things get interesting for the Bulldogs. If they lose a game in the regular season and then lose in the Conference Final, they might be on the outside looking in at the playoffs. I still think they have a legit shot at going unbeaten in the regular season, as they did last year, which would put them in the Final Four even if they lost the conference.
The Bulldogs are in behind the Crimson Tide on the board when looking at the National Championship, sitting at odds of +330. Definitely worth a look at those odds.
