Hard as it may seem to believe, the college football regular season stars this month.
We will have a few games to watch and wager on in Week 0 before we get to the official opening weekend of the season on August 31.
My Analysis
With the start now very close, we all have to start thinking about how we are going to spend our betting dollars over the next few months.
This includes futures bets on things like total wins, making the playoffs, and possibly winning the National Championship.
It is a little trickier this season given that the conferences look different, and we now have 12 teams going to the playoffs instead of just 4.
That latter part might well mean that some fringe teams find their way in, but will the NC State Wolfpack be one of them?
Let’s take a closer look.

NC State Wolfpack Regular Season, Conference, and Win Total
For the most part, the Wolfpack have been nothing if not consistent over the years, but especially in the last 4 seasons.
They have won either 8 or 9 games in each of the last 4 years, but they are also on a run of 4 straight losses in bowl games.
They will need to do better than that if they are to be part of the 12-team playoff this season, as I would imagine that 10 wins is likely to be the minimum to get in.
The bookies have them sitting tight in their usual sweet spot, with the win total for the NC State Wolfpack in 2024 set at 8 ½.
They are going to need to find a way to win a game or two that no one expected them to, which might well be possible in what looks to be a pretty open ACC.
With a new offensive coordinator in place last season, it took a moment for the Wolfpack to get rolling, but they did look a lot better coming down the stretch, which might bode well for this season.
They have a new QB ready to go this season, and you have to say that their group of wide receivers has the ability to be explosive if QB transfer Grayson McCall can get the ball in their hands.
The issue for the Wolfpack this season might be on the defensive side of the ball.
They lost their star player, Payton Wilson, to the NFL Draft, while also having a trio of new linebackers that are going to adjust the way they play.
How quickly the defense can adapt to the new system could well decide how far they go this season.

NC State Wolfpack Postseason Odds
Every wager on the Wolfpack this season comes with a bit of a risk.
The win total bet might actually trigger everything else, because if the Wolfpack can go OVER 8 ½ wins this season, they are going to potentially be in the conversation to make it into the playoffs.
In terms of the ACC, they are listed at +640 to win it, with 3 teams ahead of them on the bookies board.
This is a team that is highly unlikely to compete for a National Championship, and the odds certainly reflect that.
