With the college football season getting closer every day, we’re looking at some preseason rankings. We’re breaking down the teams that make up our preseason Top 25. College Football Team Analysis Series – Top 15-20 Teams
#16 – Oregon Ducks
The Ducks have been at or near the top of the Pac 12 over the last few seasons, and this season should be no different. Mario Cristobal has won back-to-back Pac 12 titles and will be looking for a three-peat this season. Anthony Brown should be the signal-caller for the Ducks. Brown is extremely talented and is very versatile. He’ll have a lot of weapons at his disposal.
Defensively, Oregon should be very strong. They have numerous NFL prospects on the defensive side of the ball. Defense has always been an issue in Eugene. If they can play well on this side of the ball, the Oregon Ducks can be very good.
We’ll see how for real Oregon is early this season, as they’ll travel to Columbus to take on the Ohio State Buckeyes on September 11th.
#17 – Oklahoma State Cowboys
Mike Gundy’s teams can always score points, but they can never seem to stop their opponents from scoring. Their defense improved last season, but they still gave up nearly 27 points per game. The offense will return a good portion of their key players from last season. Quarterback Spencer Sanders returns. He’ll have some new receivers to work with, and Chubba Hubbard went to the NFL. If the skilled players can play well, they’ll score a lot of points.
The Big 12 will be a dogfight this year. We’ll see if the Oklahoma State Cowboys can keep up with the top teams.
#18 – Iowa Hawkeyes
It’s never pretty, but Kirk Ferentz and the Hawkeyes just find ways to win. Ferentz runs a traditional, run-heavy offense. Iowa is always loaded up front and always has a stable of solid running backs. The Hawkeyes are always very solid on defense as well. The Iowa Hawkeyes are the favorite to win a weak Big 10 West.
#19 – Ole Miss Rebels
Lane Kiffin has a high-powered offense that averaged nearly 40 points per game last season. Quarterback Matt Corral will be back to lead Kiffin’s high-flying attack. We know that Ole Miss can score, but can they stop the opposition from scoring? They gave up an average of 38 points per game last season. The defense will need to improve, or it could be a tough road in the SEC. They have trips to Alabama, Tennessee, and Auburn on their schedule. If they can win one of those games, things should be good for Kiffin.
#20 – Miami Hurricanes
D’Eriq King should be back, ready to lead the Canes in the ACC. After hurting his knee in Miami’s bowl game last season, it looks as though he’ll be ready for the season opener. He should have a nice offensive unit to run.
Miami lost a lot on the defensive side of the ball, but Manny Diaz went out and recruited well, so Miam should be solid. Their secondary should be a very good unit this season, with Bubba Bolden leading the way.
The Miami Hurricanes has a tough test early, as they will play Alabama in their season opener.
