NCAAF Odds & Betting Preview on Army at Ohio State for Week 3

Written by on September 13, 2017

J.T. Barrett and the eighth-ranked Ohio State Buckeyes won’t have any problem bouncing back from their humbling Week 2 loss against Oklahoma when they host the Army Black Knights in Week 3. With that said, what collegiate gridiron bettors really need to know is whether Barrett and the Buckeyes can cover the NCAAF odds as four-touchdown-plus home favorites. As of now, the Buckeyes are the favorites to win at -30.

College Football Week 3 SU Picks and Winning Predictions

Why Bet the Army Black Knights Odds at +30?

The Black Knights got past Buffalo in their 21-17 Week 2 win as quarterback Ahmad Bradshaw completed a modest 2 of 8 passes for 17 yards, but rushed 25 times for 147 yards and one touchdown while running back Darnell Woolfolk rushed 21 times for 91 yards and two touchdowns. Defensively, Army shut Buffalo out in the second half and is limiting the opposition to just 11.5 points per game. Army coach Jeff Monken has talked to his team about the kind of talent they’ll be facing in the Buckeyes on Saturday. “As I told our team, they perhaps may be the most talented football team Army has ever faced in school history,” he said Tuesday. We have to give our guys some hope,” Monken added. “Nobody outside of this room is running around saying, ‘Man, Army is going to beat the heck out of Ohio State.’ We’re 30.5-point underdogs. Everyone is saying we’re going to get our butts whipped. “We’ve got to look at their team and find the things we can do to be successful on offense, defense and special teams, practice them and try to go execute.”

Why Bet the Ohio State Buckeyes Odds at -30?

Ohio State clearly couldn’t keep up with Baker Mayfield and the Ohio State Buckeyes in their 31-16 Week 2 home loss while never coming close to covering the spread as a 7.5-point home favorite. The Buckeyes allowed Mayfield to pass for 386 yards and three touchdowns while J.T. Barrett had a modest outing by completing just 19 of 35 passes for 183 yards with no touchdowns and one interception. Are the Buckeyes a safe bet in the NCAAF odds against Army? “I’m going to make it perfectly clear. There’s not a bull’s-eye on J.T. Barrett,” Buckeyes head coach Urban Meyer told reporters after Ohio State’s 31–16 loss Saturday night. “It’s part of the system and a group that have to get better.”. “The play-calling, I’m going to keep evaluating that and make sure we’re doing what we’re doing best,” Meyer said. “But now is not the time (to change quarterbacks). And I would anticipate the whole program feels that way. It’s moving forward and fixing issues.”

Expert NCAAF Odds Analysis and Prediction

While I’m not real fond of high point spreads like this one, I am going to advise you to back the Ohio State Buckeyes to get the emphatic win and ATS cover, mostly because they’re going to come out with an A-plus effort after getting smacked around by Oklahoma last weekend. The Buckeyes may be just 1-4 ATS in their last 5 home games and 2-7 ATS in their last nine games against a team with a winning record, but Army is just 7-19-1 ATS in their last 27 road games. Again, Ohio State got embarrassed last weekend and they’ll want to make a huge statement in this Week 3 matchup. Back Barrett and the Buckeyes to get the win and narrow ATS cover. NCAAF Odds Pick: Ohio State -30
