When you ask fans who the most iconic teams are in college football, you will almost certainly hear many of them mention the Notre Dame Fighting Irish.
This is a team with a rich history that includes 11 National Championships, but there is a long gap between now and that last championship, which came in the late 1980s.
My Analysis
Playing as an independent made life particularly tough for the Irish in the 4-team playoff era, so might they benefit the most from the move to a 12-team playoff this season?
That is a question that will be answered soon enough, but we are going to see if we can give some insight while we look at the odds for the Irish in a number of different categories this season.

Notre Dame Fighting Irish Regular Season, Conference, and Win Total
This is Year 3 for Irish head coach, Marcus Freeman, who has done an admirable on each of his first 2 years in charge.
He led the team to a 9-4 record in Year 1 and followed that up with a 10-4 season in 2023.
He also led the team to a pair of bowl games, both of which the Irish won, and while that is good, the ultimate goal is the playoffs and a Natty.
The bookies believe that are going to be around the same win total as last year, setting this year’s total at 10 ½.
The Irish made some big changes to the offense over the course of the postseason, the upshot of which is that they look stronger now on that side of the football.
They will have dual thereat Riley Leonard under center this season, and if he can stay healthy, he will add a new dimension to the offense in 2024.
Given that the Irish have an outstanding running backs duo, Leonard may not have to scamper as much as usual, which could help keep him upright and healthy.
The O-line could be a problem, as there were some big holes to fill, but overall, this is a top 10 offense.
Things look even better on the defensive side of the football. This unit was in the top 10 in a number of defensive categories last season and should be just as good this time around.
Will all of that be enough to get the Irish into the playoffs, though? My guess is that it will be, which is a thought that the bookies seem to share, as they have Notre Dame at -164 to get in versus +133 to miss out.

Notre Dame Fighting Irish Postseason Odds
Since we are of the belief that the Irish will be part of the 12-team playoff, the next step is to evaluate how far they will go.
I don’t see them cracking the top 4 and getting the first-round bye, so they will probably need to take the long road to a National Championship.
I do think they can get over the first hurdle, but running into one of the big guns is where things might go wrong for them, although that defense the Irish have has the ability to keep them in games.
If you think they can go all the way, you can get the Notre Dame Fighting Irish at odds of +2200 to win the Natty.

Notre Dame Fighting Irish 2023
When talking about College Football, you cannot go without discussing the Notre Dame Fighting Irishh. A season ago, the Fighting Irish went 9-4 in the first season for head coach Marcus Freeman.
The Irish scored 31.8 points per game and allowed 23 per game. The Irish were Gator Bowl winners, as they scored 45 against South Carolina. The season did not come easy, as the Irish dropped their first two games to Ohio State and Marshall.
Now, expectations are heightened as the Irish have a major upgrade at the quarterback position. Sam Hartman, who was a star at Wake Forest, will spend his final year of College Football with the Irish. He will be protected by one of the best offensive lines in College Football.
The running back room is going to have talent left and right as Audri Estime leads the way. Out is Michael Mayer, the top security blanket from last year—the tight end left for the NFL. This Irish team has a potential National Title contender written all over them.
Let’s break down Notre Dame Fighting Irish this year. Here’s the preview for your college football betting lines to win the NCAA National Championship.

Week 1: Notre Dame Fighting Irishh -19.5 vs. Navy Midshipmen
This is not the easiest opening game for a National Title-contending team. The Irish and Midshipmen go to Ireland to start the season. The Navy is a team that will take care of the football and do their best to slow the game down. That’s scary for the first game of the season.
Notre Dame should win this game, but nothing is guaranteed, especially after the season-opening loss of a season ago.
To be quite honest, this is a tough Notre Dame Football Schedule. The Irish really only have the three free spots on the schedule, and they come in the first four weeks. Even Game 1 against the Navy won’t be overly easy for the Irish. But, none of their road trips are easy wins, and all against programs that have seen success before.
The Fighting Irish play an Atlantic Coast Conference schedule without being in the conference. The home schedule is exciting because both the Ohio State Buckeyes and USC Trojans come to town. Both are national title contenders in 2023!

2023 Regular Sesason Win Total: 8.5
This should be OVER. Hartman has a ton of experience, the Irish have a great defense returning, and the coaching staff is another year experienced.
But, in 12 games, there are four potential losses on there, and a bowl game is up for grabs. In the end, though, if you are betting on this, you should feel comfortable that they can get to 9 wins in 2023.

Notre Dame National Title Odds
Finally, let’s talk about the chances of winning a National Title. The Irish are going to be really good, but getting through a regular season with 0 or 1 loss is the only chance they got. And one loss could still not be enough. The Irish are listed at +2900 to win it all, which is the 12th-best odds in College Football.
There’s work to do in South Bend, but there is also a reason for excitement. We hope you enjoyed our look at Notre Dame Fighting Irishh 2023 Season Betting Guide and it helps you with your 2023 College Football betting. Good luck!
