College football is always fun to watch, but this season is going to offer something a little different. When 2023 rolls around, we are going to see some teams make a move to a different conference. The Oklahoma Sooners are one of the teams who will be on the move, as they will leave the Big 12 to go to the SEC in 2023. Does that mean that they will be inspired to finish out their time in their current conference with a bang, or is this just another season where the National Championship remains the ultimate goal? I would suggest that the latter is the truth, as it’s always about ending the season as the best team in the country. If the Sooners are going to do that, they are going to need to quickly adapt to a new head coach, with Brent Venables taking over from Lincoln Riley, who will be plying his trade with USC this coming season. The Sooners are +2900 to win the National Championship this season, so let’s take a look to see if they can make a run as a dark horse.
Let’s take a look at their 2022 season so you can plan your bets against their NCAA Football Regular Season Wins Odds.
Oklahoma Sooners 2022 Season Betting Prediction: Win/Loss Record
Sooners Regular Season
The Oklahoma Sooners lost a lot of guys to the NFL Draft, but they have been active in the offseason, nabbing 10 players from the transfer portal. Those new guys will have a chance to settle in early on, as the Sooners open the season with a pair of games that are tantamount to scrimmages, with UTEP and Kent State being the first 2 teams that they will face.
In Week 3, they will hit the road to face a Nebraska Cornhuskers team coming off a brutal 2021 season. They will follow that up with a home game against Kansas State, which is a trickier matchup, but one that you would certainly expect them to win. Next up is a trip to face TCU, a team that they handled easily last season.
Week 6 is where they get their first real test, with the Texas Longhorns next up on the schedule. This is always a great game and one that is tough to predict. The Sooners will follow that up with a home game against Kansas, which should be a win. They will close out October with a trip to face Iowa State, which is another tough one.
The month of November is where the Sooners will really get tested, starting with Baylor, a team that beat them last season, at home. The last 3 games of the season will see them hit the road twice to face West Virginia and Texas Tech, with a home game against Oklahoma State wedged in between those two trips.
Regular Season and Beyond
With a new head coach and a raft of new players, the Sooners are a little tougher to predict. Their win total for the season is set at 8 ½, which seems low for a team that consistently hits double-digit wins. That number, combined with their odds to win the National Championship, suggests that they are about to take a backward step. I still like them to top that win total, albeit only just, as 9 wins looks very possible for this team.
