Why Bet on Ole Miss?

Ole Miss comes off a wild 48-44 home loss to South Carolina. Senior quarterback Jordan Ta’amu eclipsed the 3,000-yard mark for single-season passing yards and junior running back Scottie Phillips ran for three touchdowns in the loss.

Ta’amu finished 31-for-46 on the day with 379 yards in the air and 66 on the ground, while Elijah Moore (129 yards) set the Ole Miss freshman single-game reception record with 11. Junior A.J. Brown eclipsed the 100-yard mark with 115 yards and six catches. Phillips rushed 21 times for 141 yards in addition to his three scores on the stat sheet.

Ole Miss is the only team in the country to have an individual ranked in the top 20 nationally in passing yards, rushing yards and receiving yards. The Rebels are first in the SEC in passing (352.8 ypg), second in total offense (546.6) and in scoring (39.0 ppg).   Ole Miss has thrown for 300 or more yards in seven of its nine games this season, including two games of 400 or more yards. Ta’amu leads the SEC and ranks amongst the top five in the NCAA in passing yards (3,001) and passing yards per game (333.4). Ta’amu ranks eighth nationally with 14.71 yards per completion and ranks 10th in program history with 4,683 career passing yards.   Phillips ranks first in the SEC and seventh nationally in rushing touchdowns (12) and fifth in the NCAA in total TDs (14). Phillips’ 923 yards rushing is third in the conference. Brown ranks sixth nationally in the NCAA in receiving yards (920). Brown’s 2,584 career receiving yards rank third in program history, and he is just 63 yards shy of becoming Ole Miss’ all-time leading receiver. He’ll be a 2019 NFL first-round pick.

Why Bet on Texas A&M?

The Aggies fell out of the Top 25 with last week’s 28-24 loss at Auburn. Seth Williams caught an 11-yard touchdown pass from Jarrett Stidham with 1:41 left for the win. Kellen Mond and the Aggies pushed the ball into Auburn territory on their final drive, converting a fourth-and-5. Then a holding call pushed them back across midfield and Mond’s desperation pass into the end zone was incomplete. Officials put one second back on the clock but Mond was sacked by Nick Coe on the final play.

Junior RB Trayveon Williams logged the 10th 100-yard rushing game of his career with a game-high 107 yards and two touchdowns on 17 carries. He also contributed five catches and a score for 75 yards. It was the second 3-touchdown game on Williams’ career and first against an SEC opponent. Williams moved past Courtney Lewis (2003-06) into No. 10 on the Aggies’ career rushing list. With 220 rushing yards against Auburn, the Aggies rushed for over 200 yards against an SEC opponent for the first time since Sept. 30, 2017 vs. South Carolina in College Station.

Ole Miss vs Texas A&M looks like a tough battle.

The Aggies are averaging over 457 yards of total offense per game, with 269 coming through the air and 188 yards per game on the ground. Mond ranks fourth in the SEC with 2,252 passing yards on the season. Mond is completing 58.6 percent of his passes on the season, with 12 TDs and seven interceptions. He’s also run for four scores on the season. Mond’s top target has been Jace Sternberger. The 6-foot-4 tight end leads all SEC tight ends with 34 catches for 568 yards and six TDs.

Defensively, the Aggies are allowing just under 235 yards per game, giving up just 81 rushing yards per game, which leads the SEC and ranks second nationally. The Aggies’ defensive end tandem of Kingsley Keke and Landis Durham both rank in the top 10 in the SEC in sacks.

With a win, the Aggies’ would be eligible for their 10th-consecutive bowl game, which is tied for the 11th-longest active streak in the FBS (fourth-longest among SEC schools behind Georgia (22), LSU (18), Alabama (15). The Aggies are looking for their first win at Kyle Field against Ole Miss since Sept. 13, 1975, in which No. 9 Texas A&M defeated the Rebels, 7-0.
