Why Bet On Oregon at +3.5?

The Ducks will hit the 2019 campaign looking to improve on their solid 9-4 mark and 5-4 record in Pac-12 play from last season. Oregon has a flat-out star in senior starting quarterback Justin Herbert and one that is expected to challenge to be the top pick in next year’s NFL draft after throwing for 3,151 yards with 29 touchdowns and just eight interceptions last season. The Ducks put up a fine, 34.8 points per game (25th) and head coach Mario Cristobal has four returning starters on the offensive line and a pair of gifted running backs in  CJ Verdell and Travis Dye that combined for 1,757 yards and 14 touchdowns last season.

Defensively, the Ducks landed the No. 1 overall recruit in the nation in ‘super athletic’ defensive end Kayvon Thibodeaux to a defense that allowed 25.4 points per game last season (48th). Inside linebacker Troy Dye is a player that had a whopping 115 tackles last season and the Ducks have two third-year starters in the secondary in cornerbacks Thomas Graham Jr. and Deommodore Lenoir.

Why Bet On Auburn at -3.5?

The Tigers will look to improve on their uninspiring 8-5 mark and 3-5 mark in SEC play last season. With former signal-caller Jarrett Stidham off to the NFL, Auburn will have a new starting quarterback in 2019 in either, redshirt freshman Joey Gatewood or true freshman Bo Nix, a five-star recruit. Head coach Gus Malzahn will need to identify a feature running back since Auburn failed to field a 1,000-yard rusher last season for the first time in a decade. The Tigers averaged a solid 30.9 points per game last season, but they’ll also need to find a pair of new starting wide receivers.

Defensively, the Tigers will have one of the best defensive lines in the nation, thanks to the talents of defensive linemen Derrick Brown and Marlon Davidson first and foremost. Edge rusher Nick Coe looks like a future NFL performer and the Tigers added four, four-star recruits on their already impressive defensive line. The bad news is that Malzahn needs to find replacements for his entire starting linebacker group from last season, but the Tigers have a pair of gifted performers in the secondary in safeties Daniel Thomas and Jeremiah Dinson.

Expert Analysis and Prediction for Oregon vs Auburn

I know the Ducks have gone 1-4 ATS in their last 5 non-conference games, but the Pac-12 title hopefuls are also a robust 4-1 ATS in their last 5 games in the month of August while Auburn has gone just 3-7-1 ATS in their last 11 non-conference games With this game being played on a neutral field, I’m a bit surprised that Auburn is favored to be honest about it. The Ducks have the big edge at quarterback and on offense in general and I believe that will be the deciding factor in this intriguing pairing.
