Oregon vs Stanford 2019 College Football Week 4 Odds, Game Info & Pick

Written by on September 19, 2019

Outside of a few of the more prominent schools in college football, it’s almost impossible for any team to stay at the top for an extended period of time. As huge as Alabama has been during the Nick Saban era, we tend to forget that they were very much a sleeping giant prior to his arrival. The schools that rise back to prominence and stay there are very often those who allow a head coach the opportunity to build a team over a period of a few years. It really does take that long for a new coach to recruit the players he needs to play the system that he wants.

We are starting to see the fruits of that type of labor in Georgia, where Kirby Smart has turned the Bulldogs into a serious contender over his 4 years in charge. The Oregon Ducks had their moment in the sun a few years back and are trying to make a return to those glory days, but it is proving to be difficult. They will try to continue climbing when they head to Stanford this weekend to face the Cardinal. Oregon is in as an 11-point favorite, with the point total set at 57 ½.

Why bet on the Oregon Ducks?

There were a lot of people who believed that the Oregon Ducks had the perfect window of opportunity heading into this season. In Justin Herbert, they have one of the best young QB’s in the college game, while also playing in a PAC 12 Conference that has been down over the past few seasons. With Herbert almost certainly heading to the NFL draft at the end of this season, it’s very much a feeling of now or never for this version of the Ducks.

Things looked great in Week 1, as they jumped out to a lead against Auburn before gassing it in the 4th quarter. They needed to bounce back quickly, which they have done with back to back wins, winning by a combined score of 112-9. The Ducks, though, are just 2-5 SU and ATS in their last 7 against Stanford.

Why bet on the Stanford Cardinal?

Stanford jumped out to a nice start to the season, recording a 17-7 win over the Northwestern Wildcats as a 6 ½ point favorite. It has been all downhill from there, though, with the Cardinal defense getting pounded in back to back weeks, losing 45-20 and 45-27 to USC and UCF, respectively.

Oregon vs Stanford is going to be a close one.

That is not the kind of run you want to be on when getting set to face the Oregon Ducks. On the plus side of things, Stanford has proven to be a very difficult team to beat in their own building, going on a run that has seen them win 13 of their last 15 home games. Another positive is that they are 8-0 ATS in their last 8 games played in Week 4 of the season.

  • Pass Attempts: 30.90

Expert Pick & Final Score Prediction for Oregon vs Stanford

I think the wager we need to look at here is the OVER, with 5 of the last 7 meetings between these two in Stanford going that route. I don’t see the Cardinal defense holding up very well here, so I am also taking the Ducks to win and cover.

Score: Oregon Ducks 39 – Stanford Cardinal 27
