College Football Playoffs Preview (2017 Season)

Written by on November 20, 2017

Prior to the introduction of the college football playoffs as we know them today, there were countless years where the National Championship rankings were incredibly controversial. There was a definite need for change, and that came in 2014 with the introduction of a 4-team playoff to determine the best team in college football. The new set-up has proven to be incredibly popular, and the 2017-18 version is shaping up to be another classic, as there are essentially 7 teams legitimately still in the running for the 4 available playoff spots.

College Football Playoffs AP POLL

  • 1-Alabama Crimson Tide
  • 2-Miami Hurricanes
  • 3-Oklahoma Sooners
  • 4-Clemson Tigers
  • 5-Wisconsin Badgers
  • 6-Auburn Tigers
  • 7-Georgia Bulldogs
  • 8-Ohio State Buckeyes
  • 9-Notre Dame Fighting Irish
  • 10-TCU Horned Frogs
The Alabama Crimson Tide, who are tied for the most playoff wins with 3, are still very much in the driver’s seat. They are unbeaten on the season but need to win against Auburn in the Iron Bowl in order to seal their place in the SEC Championship Game against the Georgia Bulldogs. The Clemson Tigers, who are the defending champions, and who also have 3 playoff wins, are also still in the hunt. Their fate could be decided when they face the Miami Hurricanes in a couple of weeks, as the chances are that the loser of that game will miss out on the college football playoffs this season. Once again, Alabama is the favorite to win it all at the College Football Playoffs. The final week of the college football season is a big one, as it’s rivalry week, and we could well see teams currently in the playoff hunt fall by the wayside. Even with a win in the final week, there are still a few teams that will need to win their conference championship game in order to get in. These include the likes of the Georgia Bulldogs, Wisconsin Badgers, and Oklahoma Sooners. It’s going to be an exciting couple of weeks in college football, setting the tone for another memorable playoff schedule and a run to the National Championship.
