Prior to the introduction of the college football playoffs as we know them today, there were countless years where the National Championship rankings were incredibly controversial. There was a definite need for change, and that came in 2014 with the introduction of a 4-team playoff to determine the best team in college football. The new set-up has proven to be incredibly popular, and the 2017-18 version is shaping up to be another classic, as there are essentially 7 teams legitimately still in the running for the 4 available playoff spots.
The final week of the college football season is a big one, as it’s rivalry week, and we could well see teams currently in the playoff hunt fall by the wayside. Even with a win in the final week, there are still a few teams that will need to win their conference championship game in order to get in.
