NCAAF Season Week 13 SU Picks Expert Analysis

Written by on November 23, 2020

The decisions that the College Football Playoff Committee are going to need to make in a few weeks got a little tougher over the weekend, with the Clemson game versus Florida State cancelled late. The feeling among some in the Clemson camp, coach Dabo Swinney included, is that the Seminoles used COVID as a reason to postpone the game despite there seemingly being little need. Given that Clemson had dropped a game this season, they need to put together some good performances in the final weeks if they are to impress the committee and make the top 4. Having games postponed does not help their cause at all. That is in the past now, so we need to instead look ahead to Week 13 with some SU picks that we like and that we think you should bet against their NCAAF odds.

NCAAF SU Picks Week 13 | College Football Betting

California Golden Bears over Stanford Cardinal

While we usually focus on the Saturday games when we make our weekly selections, this week, we have a Friday game that can’t be ignored. Both of these teams are off to 0-2 starts to their season, so both need a win to get the ship righted. It is California who are in as an early favorite at home, but the point spread is set at just 1 ½ right now, so this one is about as close to a pick play as you can get. The Golden Bears have not been great at covering the spread in their own building and have done so just once in their last 7 home games. This is not much of a spread to cover, though, and when you consider that they have covered in 10 of their last 13 games played in the month of November, they suddenly look like a good bet to get the win.

Arkansas Razorbacks over Missouri Tigers

This is another one that the bookies see as being incredibly tight, with the Razorbacks going on the road as a slight 2-point favorite. This is despite the fact that they are just 3-5 on the season and on a run that has seen them lose back to back games. In fairness, those 2 losses came at the hands of Florida and LSU, so it’s not as though they are losing to bad teams. The Missouri Tigers retuned to action last weekend after a 3-week enforced layoff, coming up with a 17-10 win over the South Carolina Gamecocks. It is the Tigers who have had the best of this matchup in recent years, winning 6 of the last 8, but they did lose to Arkansas last season, so I am taking the Razorbacks to get the job done again.

Michigan Wolverines over Penn State Nittany Lions

These are a pair of teams that we expected to be in the Big Ten Championship conversation this season, but both are struggling to get any sort of traction to this point. While it has been a disappointing year for both teams, you have to say that Penn State have been a good deal worse off than their Week 13 opponent. They are sitting at 0-5 on the year after getting blown out by Iowa over the weekend and they have looked as bad as their record suggests. It has been much the same story for Michigan, although they moved to 2-3 with a win over Rutgers last weekend. What stands out here is that Penn State has just 1 win in their last 9 visits to Michigan, which is why I like the Wolverines in this one.
