In 2022, Florida State won 38-3 at Syracuse. Noles QB Jordan Travis threw for three touchdowns, caught a scoring pass and ran for another score. The Orange notched just nine first downs to 25 for FSU, were 1 of 11 on third-down conversion attempts, and were outgained 420-160, and the defense was on the field for more than 36 minutes for the third straight game. Syracuse QB Garrett Shrader finished 6 of 17 for 65 yards with one interception and rushed for minus-2 yards on 10 carries. FSU leads the all-time series 13-2.
Why Bet on Syracuse?
The Orange (4-2) fell to 0-2 in the ACC with a 40-7 loss at No. 14 North Carolina on Saturday. The Tar Heels overpowered the Orange with a ball-control offense that churned out 644 yards total offense and about twice as much time of possession. Down starters at receiver and along the offensive line, SU didn’t have the horses to stay competitive with the Tar Heels and their future NFL quarterback Drake Maye. The most glaring issue for Syracuse was the play of both lines.
SU had 221 total yards, with 129 coming in the air from Garrett Shrader (124) and Carlos Del Rio-Wilson (5). LeQuint Allen Jr. accounted for the lone Syracuse score with a 1-yard rushing touchdown. He finished with 38 total yards on the ground. Umari Hatcher had a standout game with 85 receiving yards, including a 34-yard catch to help set up the Allen touchdown. Allen has a team-leading eight touchdowns, which ranks 10th in the nation.
Justin Barron finished with a career-high 14 total tackles for the Orange, including nine solo stops, one pass breakup and a quarterback hurry. Terry Lockett added a pass breakup along the defensive line as well. Leon Lowery and Kevon Darton contributed a sack apiece. North Carolina’s fumble in the fourth quarter was the 12th turnover Syracuse has forced this season. The Orange have forced at least one turnover in every game.
“There was real football out there,” Orange coach Dino Babers said. “That’s a good team. Those guys were big, strong and fast and they executed very well.”
Syracuse is in the midst of a 34-day stretch without a game played at home. The stretch is the third-longest in college football this season, with Coastal Carolina (37 days between home games) having the longest, followed by Arkansas (35). The Razorbacks’ stretch includes a neutral site game.
Shrader has 29 rushing touchdowns at Syracuse, which are tied for fourth on the school leader list. The only ‘Cuse quarterback to score more rushing touchdowns was Eric Dungey (35). Shrader’s 29 rushing touchdowns also are tied for eighth on the ACC record list for rushing touchdowns by a quarterback.
Both of the Orange’s wins against Florida State all-time have come in Syracuse – 1966 in Archbold Stadium and 2018 in the JMA Wireless Dome.

Why Bet on Florida State?
No. 4 Florida State beat Virginia Tech 39-17 on Saturday as Trey Benson rushed for a career-high 200 yards. The win kept FSU undefeated at 5-0 on the season and extended the Seminoles’ winning streak to 11 straight dating back to the last six games of the 2022 season. It is FSU’s longest winning streak since a school-record 29-game run between 2012 and 2014. FSU has scored at least 30 points in all 11 games of its winning streak, the 2nd-longest active streak in the nation.
Benson broke the school record for average per carry in a game with at least 10 attempts with an 18.2-yard average. In addition, his 200 yards were the most for an FSU player since Dalvin Cook gained over 200 yards against Syracuse in 2016. FSU’s offense scored on its first three possessions to take a 22-0 lead before the first quarter was over. The Hokies managed 10 unanswered points in the second quarter and opened the second half with a kickoff return for a touchdown before the Seminoles’ defense turned up the intensity and kept them from scoring the rest of the game.
Jordan Travis was masterful in the passing game connecting on 18 of 24 passes for 170 yards and a pair of touchdowns. Johnny Wilson had four catches for 54 yards and was on the receiving end of both Travis’ scoring tosses. Tight end Kyle Morlock also had four catches for 30 yards in a game that saw eight different receivers catch a pass. FSU finished with 452 yards of total offense.
Travis is now tied with 1993 Heisman Trophy winner Charlie Ward for the 6th-most wins by a starting quarterback in school history, with 22. Travis has thrown at least one touchdown in 17 consecutive games, the longest streak for a Seminole since 2013 Heisman Trophy winner Jameis Winston’s 27-game streak in 2013-14. Travis has multiple TD passes in six straight games, extending a career high, and his 57 career TD passes are the 4th-most in FSU history, tied with Danny Kanell.
FSU remained perfect in the Red Zone, converting on all three chances. The Noles are 20-for-20 this year and have scored 125 points on those Red Zone trips. Mike Norvell improved to 9-2 in his head coaching career following an in-season open date and 27-9 as a head coach with more than one week to prepare for an opponent including season openers, mid-week games and bowl games. FSU is now 21-1 when scoring at least 30 points under Norvell.
Florida State will honor the 1993 national championship game team at halftime. That club had the likes of Heisman winner Charlie Ward and future NFL stars Derrick Brooks and Warrick Dunn.
