The 2024 college football season kicks off this Saturday with a few Week Zero games before essentially every team in the nation gets underway next week.
Here are three conference favorites that we think will cash this year.
Boise State Broncos (-110 to win Mountain West)
Boise State fired its coach Andy Avalos during last season yet still won the Mountain West championship with a 44-20 rout of UNLV in the league title game. It was Boise’s fifth all-time MW title in football and the Broncos should repeat. They have had 26th consecutive winning seasons, the nation’s longest active streak.
Former defensive coordinator Spencer Danielson was the interim coach for Boise last year after Avalos was fired but was given the full-time gig in a no-brainer. He was the first interim head coach to lead his team to a conference championship game title in FBS history. In each of his three seasons as defensive coordinator Boise State ranked in the top three of the Mountain West in scoring defense, including allowing a league-low 19 points per game in 2021.
Boise State could have the nation’s top running back in Ashton Jeanty, who considered the NFL Draft and transferring but got big NIL money to return. The 2024 Mountain West Offensive Player of the Year is on every preseason All-American list.
In 2023, Jeanty ran the ball 220 times for 1,347 yards and 14 touchdowns while tallying 43 receptions for 567 yards and five touchdowns. He led the nation in yards from scrimmage per game (159.67) and was third in all-purpose yards despite missing two games. USC transfer Malachi Nelson, a former five-star recruit, likely will be the starting QB this year.
^Memphis (+220 to win AAC)
SMU won the 2023 AAC title with an unbeaten league record and then beat Tulane in the title game but the Mustangs are now in the ACC. Their toughest regular-season game was a 38-34 win over Memphis, and we think the Tigers will claim the 2024 title.
The Tigers were voted as preseason champions as well, getting 23 of a possible 30 first-place votes. Coach Ryan Silverfield’s team returns 17 starters from last season, including 10 on an offense that averaged a league-leading 39.4 points and ranked second in total offense at 458.5 yards per game. Memphis will be led by quarterback Seth Henigan, who will be the only fourth-year player nationally to start at quarterback for the same team in all four years.
Henigan passed for 3,883 yards (ranking fourth nationally) and 32 touchdowns (fifth nationally) against nine interceptions last season. He is on all the major preseason award watch lists: Johnny Unitas Golden Arm, the Maxwell Award, Walter Camp Award and Davey O’Brien Award.
Henigan is the Memphis-career leader entering 2024 in completions (839) and passing yards (10,776) while his 79 touchdowns are just a dozen shy of Brady White’s career record.
If Henigan throws for his career average in passing touchdowns (26) in 2024, he would enter the NCAA’s top 25 all-time in that statistic and would become just the second QB since 2013 to post four-straight seasons with at least 25 total touchdowns. Four starters return on the offensive line, including sophomore left tackle Kage Casey, who was a freshman All-American and did not surrender a sack.
^Ohio State (+155 to win Big Ten)
Can you buy a Big Ten and national title? We may find out this year after Ohio State reportedly spent $20 million this offseason on players through the NIL market. That allowed the team to keep players WR Emeka Egbuka, RB TreVeyon Henderson, DE Jack Sawyer and CB Denzel Burke from entering the NFL Draft and Coach Jason Day landed marquee transfers such as former five-star quarterback Julian Sayin, Alabama star safety Caleb Downs, Ole Miss running back Quinshon Judkins and Kansas State quarterback Will Howard.
Howard will be the 2024 starter and is among the Heisman Trophy favorites. He is the most experienced of Ohio State’s five scholarship quarterbacks with 34 games played and 28 starts at Kansas State between 2020-23. Howard was 8-4 as the team’s starting quarterback in 2023 and was named second-team all-Big 12.
He set the Kansas State career record with 48 touchdown passes and tied the school single season record with 24 touchdown passes in 2023. He ranks fourth at Kansas State in career completions (458), fifth in passing yards (5,786), attempts (779) and total offense per game (197.3), sixth in passing yards per game (170.2) and seventh in passing efficiency (135.1).
OSU was voted the preseason favorite in the Big Ten and gets to host Michigan this year – the Wolverines have won three in a row in the series and three straight Big Ten titles but should take a major step back in 2024. Ohio State might not be an underdog all season; the big test will be early November at Oregon, which is the second-favorite in the Big Ten.

2023 Conferences Odds, Top 3 Teams
A couple of NCAA Football Conference Championship games are set. But many are still to be determined. For example, the Oregon Ducks, Washington Huskies, and Oregon State Beavers continue to dream of the final Pac-12 Conference title.
The Atlantic Coast Conference shows Florida State as the favorite to win the title with Louisville and North Carolina.

2023/24 NCAA Division I FBS football season | 154th season of college football in the United States
Date Analysis: Friday, December 1st – Saturday, December 2nd, 2023
Pac-12 Championship
Oregon Ducks -189
Washington Huskies +179
Oregon State Beavers +1800
Analysis: Friday, December 1st, 2023
Although Washington beat Oregon in the regular season head-to-head, almost everyone agrees that the Ducks will best Washington in the Pac-12 Championship. More importantly, the Huskies have a couple of tough games left on the schedule, at 12 Oregon State and versus Washington State.
The Huskies could struggle versus a fired up Beavers team. The annual battle against Washington State is always a tough game.
Oregon finishes off their regular season against ASU, a team they should decimate by 30 or more points and versus the Beavers. The Ducks play the Beavers in Autzen, which gives Oregon a massive edge.
Oregon State could beat Washington and Oregon and head to the Pac-12 Championship. But the chances of beating both the Huskies and the Ducks aren’t great. Although, the Civil War, the annual football game between the Ducks and the Beavers is always close. So take a shot on the Beavs if you think they get it done.

MAC Championship
Toledo Rockets -270
Miami Ohio RedHawks +222
Ohio Bobcats +1950
Analysis: Saturday, December 2nd, 2023
Save for a 31-28 loss to Illinois in their first game of the season, the Toledo Rockets have been perfect. Toledo is 6-0 in the conference and have already beaten Miami-Ohio, the team that is second choice to win the MAC Championship.
The Rockets have already stamped their ticket to the MAC Championship. Even if the unthinkable happens and the Rockets lose to Bowling Green and Central Michigan, Toledo is in the MAC title game.
The Redhawks played Toledo tough, losing 21-17. Miami-Ohio finished their regular season versus Buffalo and Ball State. The Redhawks single conference loss was against Toledo.
Ohio, the preseason MAC favorite, has lost 2 of their last 4 to Northern Illinois and Miami-Ohio. The Redhawks would have to implode for the Bobcats to leapfrog and take on Toledo in the title game.

Big 12 Championship
Texas Longhorns -171
Oklahoma Sooners +360
Oklahoma State Cowboys +530
Analysis: Saturday, December 2nd, 2023
If Texas beats Iowa State and Texas Tech, which the Longhorns should, Steve Sarkisian’s bunch will stamp their ticket to the Big 12 Championship. The Longhorns are desperate to take down 2-loss Oklahoma.
In their last, the Sooners bounced back from back-to-back losses versus Kansas and Oklahoma State to trounce West Virginia 59-20. Oklahoma should finish with the 2 conference losses and that’s it because the Sooners take on BYU and then TCU.
Oklahoma State was on the fast track to the Big 12 title game, but an inexplicable 45-3 to loss to UCF put a dent into their championship hopes. Still, if the Cowboys win out, they face Texas in the title game because the Pokes beat the Sooners in the head-to-head.
Oklahoma must win out and hope Oklahoma State loses 1 of their next 2 games for the Sooners to take reach the Big 12 Championship.

SEC Championship
Georgia Bulldogs vs Alabama Crimson Tide
Analysis: Saturday, December 2nd, 2023
After all the talk of Alabama and Georgia not being as good this season as they were in seasons past, the SEC Championship comes down to the two behemoth college football programs.
Alabama easily handled their SEC West opponents. Georgia easily handled their SEC East opponents. Even if both teams lose their next 2 SEC games, the Tide and Dawgs will face off for the SEC title.

Atlantic Coast Conference Championship
Florida State Seminoles -450
Louisville Cardinals +320
North Carolina Tar Heels +9500
Analysis: Saturday, December 2nd, 2023
Florida State heads to North Alabama for a glorified practice in their next game. The Seminoles take on interstate rival Florida in their final game of the season. Florida is a mess in 2023. So we should expect FSU to win out and take on Louisville or North Carolina in the title game.
Louisville would have to fall to Miami and North Carolina would have to win their next 2 games, both on the road versus Clemson and North Carolina State, for the Tar Heels to make the title match. Beating Clemson shouldn’t happen. There’s a chance the Tar Heels lose both of their final 2 ACC regular season games.
Louisville beats Miami in their next game and they’re in. Kentucky plays in the SEC. So Louisville’s final regular season game versus the Wildcats has no bearing on where Louisville finished in the conference.

Big Ten Championship
Michigan Wolverines
Ohio State Buckeyes
Iowa Hawkeyes
Oddsmakers have yet to post numbers for Michigan, Ohio State, and Iowa to win the Big Ten. Iowa will be a massive underdog. The Hawkeyes, though, should at least make the title game after beating Illinois and Nebraska.
This week, Michigan is at Maryland and Ohio State takes on Minnesota. It doesn’t matter what the Buckeyes and Wolverines do this Saturday. They could both lose and the winner of their annual final regular season battle would still determine which team plays for a Big Ten title against Iowa.
