Temple at UCF NCAA Football Week 10 Odds & Preview

Written by on October 31, 2018

On Tuesday night, we saw the first official rankings released by the College Football Playoff Committee, with very few surprises revealed in their selections. As the season progresses, there are probably going to be fans and programs upset with the rankings that the committee put forth, with the majority of the disgruntled groups more than likely coming from conferences outside of the Power 5. The harsh reality for those teams is that they cannot compete with the bigger programs in terms of strength of schedule.

The perfect example of this is the UCF Knights, a team that has now gone 20 games unbeaten, yet who were unable to even crack the top 10 in the initial rankings. Fans can howl all they want, but they also need to understand that the Knights have yet to play a team with a winning record this season. That all changes on Thursday night, though, as UCF will welcome in the 5-3 Temple Owls. UCF is in as an 11 point favorite, with the point total set at 61.

Why bet on the Temple Owls?

The Owls come into this game on a 3-game winning streak, a run that they have been able to achieve by playing very good defensive football. Over the period of those 3 games, the Owls have conceded an average of just 13.5 PPG, which is well below their season average of 21 PPG. That defense is going to need to be at its best against a Knights offense that has been humming along nicely all season long.

Besides picking up the wins, the Owls have also proven to be a very good pick for bettors, as they have now covered the spread in each of their last 6 games. They were a double-digit underdog twice during that run, covering both times and actually winning one of those games. Temple has won 5 of their last 6 games on the road, so do not expect them to be intimidated when heading into Central Florida.

Why bet on the UCF Knights?

There is sure to be some disappointment in the UCF ranks after being placed at #12 by the college football playoff committee. While it may be disappointing, it is hard to argue that ranking, especially given the level of competition that they have faced. Their toughest date on the schedule this season as a game against Memphis, which was one that they escaped by the skin of their teeth.

Temple at UCF should be a close one.

The Knights have covered in 5 of their last 6 games, with the lone miss being the 31-30 win over Memphis, a game that they started as a 5-point favorite. The Knights offense is averaging over 44 PPG this season, but in their last 5 meetings with Temple, they have averaged just under 32 PPG, going 3-2 SU in those meetings.

Expert Pick & Final Score Prediction for Temple at UCF

The feeling here is that the Knights will come out with a bit of a chip on their shoulder after being given the #12 spot. I like them to win here, but I also think they will have a bit of a fight on their hands. The OVER seems like the best bet to me in this one.
