J.T. Barrett is Unstoppable

There are dual-threat quarterbacks and then there are dual-threat quarterbacks that take games into their own capable hands. Ohio State’s J.T. Barrett is among college football’s most unstoppable dual-threat quarterbacks and he alone could give any team – Alabama included – absolute nightmares. While I’m personally going to have a problem seeing the Buckeyes get selected for the four-team College Football Playoff over a Penn State team that both, bet the Buckeyes and could win the Big ten title this season, I must admit that Ohio State will pose a huge problem for whoever they face come playoff time, mostly because of their elusive signal-caller. Barrett has completed 61.8 percent of his passes this season while throwing for 2,428 yards with 24 TD passes and just five interceptions. The fleet-footed junior has also rushed for a stellar 847 yards and nine touchdowns while averaging a healthy 4.4 yards per carry. The bottom line is that Barrett is the kind of dual-threat quarterback that could give Alabama – or anyone else for that matter – absolute nightmares.

Outstanding Defense

There’s no elite defender like 2016 NFL first round draft pick Joey Bosa or a bunch of other All-Americans on the defensive side of the ball this season, but Ohio State is very good – and a bit underrated – defensively. The Buckeyes are ranked fourth nationally in total defense (282.4 ypg), 15th against the run (117.9 ypg), fifth against the pass (164.5 ypg) and a stellar fourth in points allowed (14.1 ppg). Ohio State has held four of their last five opponents to 20 points or less while holding three of those opponents to 16 points or less and two of them to an identical three points. If that isn’t elite, then I don’t know what is!

Urban Meyer Won’t Get Out-Coached

Meyer has gone 61-5 in five seasons at Ohio State while reaching the double-digit win mark every season and losing one game or less four times, including his inaugural season at the Big ten  powerhouse where he went 12-0 but didn’t get to compete for the national championship because of prior NCAA sanctions. Meyer led the Buckeyes to the national championship in 2014 and he simply will not get out-coached by anyone, including Alabama’s Nick Saban.
