With the final week of the 2020 NCAA college football regular season nearly her and the ensuing College Football Playoffs not far off, it’s time to take another look at the winners and losers in this week’s national Top 25. College Football Top 25 – Winners and Losers After Week 15
While the CFP rankings were unchanged among the top five teams (Alabama, Notre Dame, Clemson, Ohio State and Texas A&M) eight teams moved up after last weekend’s results while three teams fell, with two of those taking massive hits. With all of that said, let’s find out which teams enter Week 16 as winners and losers as far as the CFP rankings are concerned.
College Football Rankings – Week 16
Winners – These teams all saw their CFP rankings improve following last week’s slate of action.
- No. 6 Iowa State (8-2)
The Cyclones are up one spot after routing West Virginia 42-6 on Saturday. Iowa State has four wins against teams over .500, including two against CFP Top 25 teams: Oklahoma and No. 20 Texas.
- No. 8 Georgia (7-2)
The Bulldogs are up one spot after spanking Missouri 49-14 last weekend, but with two losses this season, it doesn’t matter.
- No. 9 Cincinnati (8-0)
The Bearcats fell one spot despite not playing last weekend. Cincinnati has given up just 13 touchdowns in eight games which is the fewest of any team in the country that has played at least eight times. The bad news is that the Bearcats have no wins against Power 5 opponents and one FCS win against overmatched Austin Peay.
- No. 10 Oklahoma (7-2)
The Sooners are up one spot after stomping No. 14 Oklahoma State in their last contest, but the Sooners blew their CFP hopes a long time ago by suffering a pair of embarrassing losses.
- No. 11 Indiana (6-1)
Indiana’s only loss this season was a thriller against No. 4 Ohio State. the Hoosiers are up one spot in this week’s CFP rankings after subduing Wisconsin 14-6 the last time out.
- No. 12 Coastal Carolina (11-0)
The Chanticleers are up one spot in the CFP rankings after taking down Troy 42-38 in a knock-down, drag-out brawl the last time out. For this team to get into the national top 10 is insane huge, though their unblemished record won’t mean much come playoff time.
- No. 13 USC (5-0)
The Trojans are up two spots after getting past UCLA 43-38. Still, even if they beat Oregon in the Pac-12 title game, Southern Cal will finish the season without any wins against ranked opponents.
- No. 15 North Carolina (8-3) up 2
Losers – These teams all saw their CFP rankings take a hit after last weekend.
- No. 7 Florida (8-2) down 1
Florida saw its faint hopes for a miraculous CFP berth completely extinguished by losing to an unranked LSU team 37-34 on Saturday. In stunning fashion, the Gators only fell one spot from sixth to seventh. Huh?
Florida might still have a chance of reaching the CFP if they beat Alabama and win the SEC. Just so you know, the SEC champion has never been left out of the playoff.
- No. 18 Miami (8-2)
Previously 10th-ranked Miami took the biggest hit of any team in the national rankings by falling eight spots to No. 18 following their completely embarrassing 62-26 blowout loss against North Carolina.
- No. 25 Colorado (4-1)
Previously No. 21 Colorado nearly fell out of the CFP rankings by falling four spots after their 38-21 loss against Utah.
