NCAA Football Top 25 Rankings: Winners and Losers After Week 10
Losers
Georgia (4-2)
There was no bigger loser last week than previously fifth-ranked Georgia. The Bulldogs got all kinds of smacked around in their stunning 44-28 blowout loss against now, No. 6 Florida. After wrapping up the first quarter tied 14 apiece, Georgia gave up a whopping 24 second quarter points to the Gators while also getting shut out in the fourth quarter. To make matters worse, starting quarterback Stetson Bennett stunk up the joint by completing just 5 of 16 passes while throwing one pick – before backup D’Wan Mathis made it even worse by completing just 4 of 13 passes while tossing two picks!
Michigan (1-2)
Now, out of the national rankings, previously 23rd-ranked Michigan also got smacked senseless in their stunning 38-21 smackdown against red-hot Indiana. Quarterback Joe Milton passed for 344 yards and three touchdowns, but tossed a pair of costly pick in the loss while the Wolverines defense gave up 342 passing yards and three TD passes to Hoosier signal-caller Michael Penix Jr. and a pair of rushing scores to running back Stevie Scott III. Could head coach Jim Harbaugh be done in Ann Arbor after this season? I think so!
Boise State (2-1)
Previously ranked 21st in the national rankings, Boise State got completely overwhelmed in its embarrassing 51-17 blowout loss against now, eighth-ranked BYU. The Broncos used three quarterbacks in the loss and gave up 360 passing yards and three TD tosses to Cougars signal-caller Zach Wilson.
Clemson (7-1)
The previously top-ranked Tigers were knocked off their perch atop the national rankings by ending up on the wrong side of a thrilling 47-40 double overtime loss against now, second-ranked Notre Dame. Clemson gave up 140 rushing yards and three touchdowns to Fighting Irish running back Kyren Williams, but their defeat is softened a bit because the Tigers were playing without start quarterback Trevor Lawrence.
Winners
Florida (4-1)
The Gators moved up two spots in the national rankings by pounding Georgia en route to their aforementioned 44-28 rout of SEC rival Georgia last weekend. Quarterback Kyle Trask was outstanding in passing for a mind-boggling 474 yards with four TD tosses and one interception. Now, the Gators will look to give their College Football Playoff hopes another boost against mediocre Arkansas on Saturday.
Notre Dame (7-0)
The Fighting Irish moved up two spots to No. 2 in the national rankings by getting past previous No. 1 Clemson 47-40 in double OT last weekend. Quarterback Ian Book was solid in passing for 310 yards with one TD pass while adding 67 rushing yards in the win, but it was running back Kyren Williams that led the way to victory with three rushing scores. Now, Notre Dame will look to avoid a huge letdown when they battle Boston College on Saturday.
BYU (8-0)
BYU passed what looks like their biggest test of the season by beating up on Boise State in their stunning 51-17 rout on Saturday. The Cougars got a stupendous 360-yard, three-touchdown performance from quarterback Zach Wilson and 123 rushing yards and two TD runs from running back Tyler Allgeier in the win and now, it looks like BYU could run the table!
Alabama (6-0)
The Crimson Tide are winners heading into Week 11 despite getting a bye last weekend, following their 41-0 shutout win over Mississippi State on Halloween. Alabama is a winner, simply because the got the top spot back in the national rankings, thanks to Clemson’s loss against Notre Dame. Now, with their Week 11 matchup against LSU postponed because of several positive COVID-19 tests on the Tigers program, the Tide are sitting pretty looking forward.
