With the first edition of the 2020 College Football Playoff rankings coming out earlier this week, it’s time to take a look at the latest round of nationally-ranked Top 25 ‘winners and losers’ as we get set for Week 13 of the 2020 NCAA college football season.
Remember, what’s up had been down and vice versa in what has been the craziest college football season of all-time and one of the craziest years in the recorded history of mankind! Now, let’s get started so you can keep betting against their NCAAF odds.
College Football Top 25 – Winners and Losers After Week 12
Winners
- No. 1 Alabama
Undefeated No. 1 Alabama cruised to a 63-3 victory against Kentucky to remain in the top spot in the national and CFP rankings, so that’s an easy ‘win’ for the Crimson Tide. Looking ahead though, it remains to be seen how Nick Saban’s recent positive COVID-19 test will affect Alabama, so that situation bears watching.
- No. 2 Notre Dame
Notre Dame had a bye last weekend to remain second in the AP and CFP rankings, so the Fighting Irish were winners last week without ever taking the field!
- No. 3 Clemson
Now, third-ranked Clemson didn’t play Florida State because a player who was on the plane to Tallahassee was positive for COVID-19. Still, the Tigers are ‘winners’ simply because they moved up one spot in the AP and CFP rankings ahead of unbeaten Ohio State, no matter whos pissed off Dabo Swinney is!
- No. 4 Ohio State
Ohio State beat a top-10 team by getting past previously ninth-ranked Indiana, although I think the Buckeyes should have dropped out of the Top 4 after squeaking past the Hoosiers 42-35 while getting outscored 28-14 in the second half and 14-0 in the fourth quarter.
- No. 5 Texas A&M
The Aggies are up to No. 5 in the national and CFP rankings despite not suiting up the last two weeks because of COVID-19 tracing protocols, so that’s a big ‘win’ for Texas A&M heading into their Week 13 matchup against LSU. Right now, the Aggies narrow 41-38 win over No. 6 Florida looks absolutely huge!
- No. 8 Northwestern
Now, ranked eighth in the national and CFP rankings, Northwestern was a big winner after subduing now, No. 16 Wisconsin 17-7 last weekend. While the Wildcats have had two of their game canceled this season, Northwestern looks like a near lock to at least reach the Big Ten championship game. A win in that contest, almost assuredly against No. 4 Ohio State, would catapult the Wildcats into the CFP mix no matter what any other top playoff hopeful does.
Losers
- No. 7 Cincinnati
The Bearcats must feel a bit like the late Rodney Dangerfield because they’re getting little to no respect as we head into Week 13. Cincinnati has recorded some impressive wins, including victories against then, No. 22 Army and previously 16th-ranked SMU, but I feel like the AAC residents could very well be ranked inside the Top 5. Yes Cincinnati needs to run the table while getting some help from either No. 4 Clemson, No. 5 Texas A&M or No. 6 Florida, but I’ve watched the Bearcats several times this season and I’m here to say, the Bearcats look like a team that could beat anyone on any given day, including all four of the nation’s top ranked quartet.
- No. 14 BYU
Not only is unbeaten BYU down to No. 14 in the national rankings, but the Cougars are now completely out of reach for a New Year’s Six bowl game. BYU does have a weak schedule this season that includes no contests against a single Power 5 opponent and only three wins against FBS teams above .500 (Boise State, Louisiana Tech and UTSA). BYU also has a win against tiny FCS program, North Alabama (0-4). Whether it’s right or wrong, BYU enters Week 13 as ‘losers’ particularly seeing as how they don’t play again until Dec. 12 in their regular-season finale against San Diego State.
- No. 15 Oregon up 2 spots
Oregon is 3-0 following its 38-35 win against UCLA last weekend, but the Ducks head into Week 13 as certified losers simply because they’ve dropped six spots and no longer have the look or feel of a Top 4 title contender. Yes, Oregon is the top-ranked team in the Pac-12, but right now, it doesn’t mean much, particularly seeing as how the Ducks just haven’t looked very dominant.
- No. 11 Oklahoma
The Sooners are up four spots from where they were a week ago, but my question is…why? I know Oklahoma spanked in-state rival Oklahoma State 41-13 last weekend, but for me, that doesn’t erase their pair of horrific losses against K-State and Iowa State, in consecutive weeks no less!
- No. 16 Wisconsin
The Badgers got completely dominated by Northwestern’s stingy defense while watching their CFP hopes go right out the window with the defeat. I had some high hopes for Wisconsin this season, but they’re gone…just like that!
- No. 23 Oklahoma State
The Cowboys are down 7 spots from where they were a week ago, but it’s their own fault! Oklahoma State has lost two of it last three games in losing to mediocre No. 17 Texas and then getting completely dominated by an Oklahoma squad that had two losses going into last weekend’s huge matchup. Yeah, the Cowboys are now going, nowhere, like really fast!
- No. 12 Indiana
The Hoosiers are down three spots after putting up a great second half effort in their narrow 42-35 loss against Ohio State last weekend, but I think there’s no way Indiana should be ranked lower than two-loss Georgia or certainly not lower than two-loss Oklahoma.
We Was Robbed!
So what No. 20 Coastal Carolina and No. 21 Marshall don’t play the most elite competition in the world. Both teams are unbeaten against their respective opponents this season and that has to mean something right? Both teams have dropped with Coastal Carolina falling one spot from a week ago and Marshall down two spots. remember that old saying? We was robbed? I sue do and I believe it applies to both schools.
