What a wild weekend of college football we just saw! The nation’s top two teams, Alabama and Miami, were both upset. It’s the first time that happened on the same weekend since 2012. Defending national champion Clemson is now No. 1 in the polls and probably will be in the new College Football Playoff Top 25 when that’s released on Tuesday. Why Bet On Auburn?

Auburn could become the first two-loss team to make the College Football Playoff. The Tigers jumped to No. 4 in the new AP poll following their 26-14 upset of previously unbeaten Alabama on Saturday in the Iron Bowl to win the SEC West. So much for Coach Gus Malzahn being on the hot seat – he was earlier in the season. Trailing 14-10 after an Alabama touchdown on the opening drive of the second half, Auburn scored the game’s final 16 points on touchdown runs by Kerryon Johnson and Jarrett Stidham, and Daniel Carlson’s second field goal. Johnson put Auburn ahead to stay with a 1-yard touchdown run with 3:02 left in the third quarter. Stidham gave Auburn a two-score lead with a 16-yard touchdown run with 12:49 remaining in the fourth quarter. Auburn’s defense did the rest, holding Alabama to 314 yards. Auburn held Alabama without a third-down conversion until in the fourth quarter. Johnson, a likely Heisman finalist, delivered a jump pass for a touchdown and ran 30 times for 104 yards before leaving in the fourth quarter with a right shoulder injury. Ryan Davis caught 11 passes for 139 yards. Auburn is now 9-5 in Iron Bowls played in Jordan-Hare Stadium and 5-3 in Iron Bowls when both teams were ranked inside the AP Top 10. The Tigers are 2-0 all-time against No. 1 ranked Alabama teams at Jordan-Hare Stadium; also defeating the Crimson Tide, 34-28, in 2013. Auburn had a 100-yard receiver and 100-yard rusher for the first time in an Iron Bowl since 1989 – Alexander Wright (141 yards receiving) and Stacy Danley (130 yards rushing). It was just the Tigers’ second time to accomplish the feat in the Iron Bowl The 12-point margin of victory was Auburn’s largest in an Iron Bowl since defeating Alabama by 23 points (49-26) in 1969.

Why Bet On Georgia?

The No. 6 Dawgs avoided a trap Saturday in beating rival Georgia Tech 38-7. The Bulldogs used a balanced attack offensively with 224 passing yards and 247 rushing yards. Freshman quarterback Jake Fromm went 12-for-16 in the air for 224 yards and two touchdowns, while senior wide receiver Javon Wims led the team in receiving with 77 yards on five catches and a score. Georgia scored on three of its five possessions in the second half to seal the victory. The only non-score drives consisted of a punt and the final possession in which Georgia controlled the ball for 7:19 leaving GT the ball with only seven seconds left. The Bulldogs came in ranked fourth nationally in scoring defense, allowing only 14.4 points a game and held Tech’s option attack to just seven points and 226 total yards (188 rushing). Tech was averaging 30.2 points/game and 319.3 rushing yards a game. The Dawgs entered leading the nation in Red Zone Offense, going 40-for-41 with 30 touchdowns. Against Tech, Georgia went 4-for-4 in the Red Zone (3 TDs, 1 FG). On Nov. 11, Auburn beat then No. 1 Georgia 40-17. Johnson ran for 167 yards and caught a 55-yard touchdown pass. The Tigers held Nick Chubb, Sony Michel and the SEC’s top ground game to 46 yards, 233 below their season average at the time. Stidham threw for 214 yards and three touchdowns, all of 30-plus yards.

Why Bet On TCU?

I guarantee you the officials in the Big 12 office are rooting for TCU, in its first-ever Big 12 title game (the conference hasn’t had a title game since 2010 and TCU wasn’t in the conference then), to lose here. That’s because if the No. 10 Frogs do pull the upset, the Big 12 will miss out on the College Football Playoff for the third time in four years. The only time the conference made it was the 2015 season when Oklahoma was routed in the semifinals 37-17 by Clemson. TCU clinched its spot in the title game with a 45-22 win over Baylor last Friday. Kenny Hill threw touchdowns to three different receivers and ran 3 yards for another score. TCU was a bit sluggish at first, falling behind 9-0 to a very bad Bears squad. TCU improved to 21-0 when playing at home as an AP top-10 team under Gar Patterson. The Horned Frogs had eight sacks, their most in a game since totaling nine against SMU in 2014. TCU has at least one sack in 53 of its last 55 games. Senior defensive end Mat Boesen was named the national defensive player of the week. He set TCU and Big 12 records with 5 1/2 sacks, just a 1/2 sack shy of the NCAA single-game mark. He also forced a fumble which led to a TCU touchdown while totaling a team-best and career-high 10 tackles. Additionally, he had a quarterback hurry. TCU also scored for the 318th consecutive game. It’s the nation’s second-longest current streak and fourth all-time in NCAA history. The Horned Frogs haven’t been blanked since Nov. 16, 1991, at Texas (32-0). Frogs safety Nick Orr has been suspended for the first half of the Big 12 championship game. He was involved in as bench-clearing skirmish that broke out against Baylor.

Why Bet On Oklahoma?

The Sooners will be in the playoff with a victory as they are No. 2 in the new AP poll following a 59-31 win over West Virginia on Saturday. Heisman Trophy favorite Baker Mayfield threw for 281 yards and three touchdowns. Mayfield was stripped of his captaincy and starting job for the game, his final home game as a Sooner. He entered on Oklahoma’s second possession. Rodney Anderson ran for 118 yards and four touchdowns for the Sooners. They gained 646 yards in their seventh straight win. It’s the most points Oklahoma scores against the Mountaineers. Oklahoma scored a touchdown on each of its first six possessions. The Sooners’ seventh possession of the first half consisted of just one play, a 51-yard field goal make by kicker Austin Seibert as time expired to put Oklahoma up 45-10 at the half. OU’s 45 points were their most in any half since OU scored 49 points against Nebraska in 2008. The Sooners scored on their first nine possessions of the game (8 TDs, 1 FG), with their first punt coming with under 13 mins to play in the fourth quarter. Mayfield completed 14-of-17 passes with no picks to record a passing efficiency rating of 279.4. That mark is the fourth best in program history (min. 15 attempts). Mayfield now owns four of the top 10 QB efficiency games in OU history. He now has 125 career TD passes, passing former Sooners quarterback Landry Jones (123) for sixth in FBS history. Mayfield has thrown a TD pass in a Big 12-record 38 consecutive games (every contest of his OU career). That also marks ties him with Russell Wilson for the third longest streak ever. Mayfield also holds the Big 12 record with 25 consecutive games of at least two TD passes (76 TDs to 13 interceptions during the stretch). The senior now ranks sixth in FBS history with 15,094 total yards of offense. Oklahoma has won 21 of its past 22 games overall and 24 of its last 25 within league play. It beat visiting TCU 38-20 on Nov. 11. Mayfield threw three touchdown passes, and Anderson had 290 yards from scrimmage and four touchdowns. TCU’s defense entered the night ranked sixth in the nation in scoring defense and total defense. Hill passed for 270 yards for the Horned Frogs, but he completed just 13 of 28 passes. Boesen was ejected in the second quarter for kicking an Oklahoma player.
