We are all well aware that only one team can be crowned the National Champion at the end of the college football season. There are really only a handful of teams who have a legitimate shot at reaching the playoffs and the big game. For the rest, it’s all about trying to reach the bar that has been set by the likes of Alabama and Clemson. It has been a very long time since the Texas Longhorns have been part of that very lofty company, to the point where they are now considered a sleeping giant. Each season begins with a sense that this might be the year that Texas finally breaks out and gets back among the best teams in college football.
Invariably, though, the Longhorns always seem to find a way not to live up to those expectations. We are only 1 week into the college football season and it already looks as though it’s going to be more of the same for Texas. The Longhorns are in dire need of a win on Saturday when they welcome in the Tulsa Golden Hurricane as a 23 ½ point favorite at the latest odds for NCAA Football Week 2.

Why bet on the Tulsa Golden Hurricane?
The Tulsa Golden Hurricane came into this season after a bit of a nightmare year in 2017 when they managed to win just 2 games. They are already halfway to last season’s win total after getting a win over Central Arkansas in Week 1. This is definitely going to be a much tougher test, and the Hurricane failed miserably last season when they went into bigger games. In 2017, they had a pair of games against ranked opponents and ended up getting outscored 100-38 by Oklahoma State and Memphis.
Tulsa will be looking to keep the Texas offense off the field this week, which they can do if they can run the ball as effectively as they did in Week 1 when they racked up 274 rushing yards. The bad news for Tulsa is that they are 0-5 in their last 5 road games, although they have been competitive away from home, going 14-5-1 ATS in their last 20 road games.
Why bet on the Texas Longhorns?
Texas went into their season opener against the Maryland Terrapins as a 12 ½ point favorite, yet somehow came away with a 34-29 loss. It was a rollercoaster game that saw the Longhorns get in front after a horrible start, but it was a lead that they could not hold onto. There is absolutely zero margin for error for the Longhorns now, as another loss this season will almost certainly make their hopes of winning the conference null and void.
That loss and failure to cover took the Longhorns to 9-4 ATS in their last 13 games, although I must confess that the 23 ½ points here make me a little nervous. The UNDER looks as though it may be a solid bet here, as the Longhorns have hit that mark in 8 of their last 11 home games.

Expert Pick & Final Score Prediction
I think that Texas will certainly get the SU win here, but I am not sold on the spread, which is why I like Tulsa to cover. I also like the UNDER 61 ½ points.
