If there is one complaint about the current state of the college football playoff system, it’s that teams outside of the Power 5 conferences have almost zero shot of getting in. It’s tough to make a case for the lesser conferences, though, as we rarely get to see them go against the big names in college football unless, of course, they hook up in a bowl game. Even then, you can’t really take the results too seriously, as you tend to get a lot of teams who don’t take the bowl games as seriously as others.
Last season, it was the UCF Knights who felt the most aggrieved at being left out of the playoffs. They had a fabulous unbeaten regular season which they capped off with a win over the Auburn Tigers in a bowl game. It was that final victory that led to them crowning themselves as the unofficial National Champions. They are back to winning ways again this season and will look to extend their streak when they go on the road to face the Memphis Tigers. UCF is in as a 5-point favorite, with the point total set at 81.

Why bet on the UCF Knights?
Scott Frost, the coach of the unbeaten Knights last season, is now plying his trade in Nebraska, but his old team has not skipped a beat. The Knights are a perfect 5-0 on the season, which means that their unbeaten streak now sits at 18 games. They are averaging 49 PPG, whilst also putting together an average of over 570 yards of offense per game. The Knights are an explosive offensive force, but they are going to be tested here against a Memphis team that is also making a habit of putting up some big numbers. The Knights defense is giving up just 17 PPG, but they have been susceptible to the run, conceding over 180 YPG on the ground. In their last 5 visits to Memphis, the Knights remain unbeaten, but they are just 1-4 ATS in those games.

Why bet on the Memphis Tigers?
The Tigers come into this one with a 4-2 record on the year, with losses to Navy and Tulane on the books. When they lose, it is often because the offense fails to live up to its lofty numbers. Memphis scored 22 PPG in their 2 losses while averaging about 58 PPG in the games that they won.
They have had absolutely zero joy against the Knights in recent meetings, but that does not mean that they can automatically be written off, especially when they are playing at home. Memphis has won 11 of their last 12 home games and went 6-3 ATS in their last 9 games at the Liberty Bowl. They are also 4-1 ATS in their last 5 home games against UCF.

Expert Pick & Final Score Prediction for UCF vs Memphis
As high as the point total is for this one is, the OVER still seems like the logical bet. I think we are in for a close one here, and while I like the Knights to win, I would not be stunned to see the Tigers cover the spread.
