One of the biggest games on Saturday around the nation is from Boulder as No. 22 Utah visits No. 9 Colorado. If the Buffs win the game, they will be unlikely champions of the Pac-12 South and play either Washington or Washington State in the conference title game. If Utah wins, Southern Cal wins the South. The Buffs are 10-point favorites on college football lines.

Why Bet on Utah?

If Utah (8-3) had won last week, it would have taken the Pac-12 South win a win here, but the Utes were upset by Oregon, 30-28, , on an overturned call in the end zone with two seconds remaining in the game. After Ducks QB Justin Herbert’s pass to Darren Carrington was originally ruled an incompletion, the official replays showed a sliver of red turf between Carrington’s white shoe and the sideline. Utah had just regained the lead and the momentum prior to Carrington’s grab over the outstretched arms of Brian Allen. With 2:18 remaining and the Utes trailing 24-21, Troy Williams fired a 30-yard touchdown pass to Evan Moeai to give the Utes a 28-24 advantage. The loss overshadowed another 100-yard rushing game by senior Joe Williams — his fifth-straight since coming out of a one-month retirement. Williams, who netted 149 yards and a touchdown on 23 carries to bring his season total to 1,088 rushing yards. Playing in his last game in Rice-Eccles Stadium, senior defensive end Hunter Dimick eclipsed the school sack record in collecting two sacks to bring his career total to 29.0. Dimick, who has a team-leading 14 sacks this season, had three total tackles and a pass breakup. Kicker Andy Phillips scored his 400th career point, becoming the first player in Utah history to reach the 400-point mark. He has 403 career points. No. 9 Colorado is the second ranked opponent Utah has faced this season. The Utes lost to No. 4 Washington, 31-24, on Oct. 29. In its history, when both Utah and its opponent are ranked, the Utes are 10-9. Utah has played Colorado 62 times — its most games against a Pac-12 opponent and the fifth-longest rivalry in school history. While the Utes trail the series 31-28- 3 overall, they own a 4-1 advantage over CU as Pac-12 members and have won the last four games.

Why Bet on Colorado?

The Buffaloes (9-2) beat Washington State 38-24 last week. Tailback Phillip Lindsay and quarterback Sefo Liufau accounted for 252 of CU’s 258 yards rushing and scored five touchdowns between them. Lindsay ran for 144 yards, going over 1,000 for the season and 2,000 for his career, and scored twice. Liufau ran for a career-best 108 yards, scored three TDs and completed 27-of- 41 passes for 345 yards. With his 100-yard rushing, 300-yard passing game, Liufau became only the second player in CU history to accomplish that feat. The first was his backup, Steven Montez, this season at Oregon. WSU entered the game with the Pac-12’s top-ranked rushing defense, allowing only 116.9 yards a game. The Buffs tied their school record with the most 500-yard games in a season with six (1994); CU has scored in 10 straight quarters. Colorado gained a season-high 603 yards and is now 17-1 all-time with 600+ yards. CU had two 100-yard rushers for the first since Sept. 26, 2015. Colorado snapped a 23-game losing streak against ranked teams (now 1-1 this season), as the last win over a ranked foe was against No. 17 Kansas in 2009 (34-30 in Boulder). The newest rankings improved Colorado’s long odds to reach the College Football Playoff. CU would have to beat No. 22 Utah on Saturday, then win the Pac-12 title game Dec. 2 against either No. 5 Washington or No. 23 Washington State to have a chance to crack the top four as a two-loss team.
