Utah vs. California NCAA Football Odds Report

Written by on October 10, 2015

The California Golden Bears and Utah Utes and both their College Football Betting fans will both look to remain unbeaten when the last two unbeaten teams in the Pac-12 square off in a huge Week 6 matchup that will undeniably have four-team playoff implications for both participants. Now, let’s find out who will bring home the bacon in this Pac-12 pairing!

No. 22 California at No. 7 Utah NCAAF Game Information and Odds

When: Saturday, October 10, 10:00 PM ET Where: Rice-Eccles Stadium, Salt Lake City, Utah NCAAF Odds: Utah -7 Total: 61 TV: ESPN

Why Bet on the Utah Utes

Seventh-ranked Utah has looked pretty phenomenal this season in ranking 20th in scoring (38.8ppg) and 20th in points allowed (18.8 ppg). The Utes blew Oregon out of the water in its 62-20 Week 4 win as a 10.5-point road dog and have a very efficient quarterback in Travis Wilson. The senior signal-caller has completed a blistering 68.0 percent of his passes this season and while he’s only thrown four TD passes this season, Wilson has also been careful in tossing just one interception. Wilson has also been invaluable as a runner in picking up 202 yards and three touchdowns on 23 carries. Utah’s offense and 33rd-ranked rushing attack (204.5 ypg) however is led by elite running back Devontae Booker. The fleet-footed senior has rushed for 443 yards and four touchdowns after putting up a stellar 1,512 yards and 10 scores last season.

Why Bet on the California Golden Bears

I know Cal failed to cover the spread against Washington State in their 34-28 win last week (just as I predicted) and that the Golden Bears have won each of their last tree games by six points or less, but the Golden Bears have an elite quarterback in strong-armed junior Jared Goff and an offense that is as about explosive as any in the country. Cal ranks eighth in scoring (43.4 ppg) and has scored at least 30 points in every game this season. The Golden Bears also rank a respectable 63rd in points allowed (23.4 ppg) and had an outstanding outing in forcing four turnovers and recording seven sacks in last week’s win over Washington State.

My Expert Game Analysis, Prediction & Pick:

As much as I like Jared Goff, the likely No. 1 overall pick in next year’s NFL Draft, I can’t bring myself or urge anyone to back the Cal bears in this Pac-12 pairing, mostly because Utah has been pretty damned stupendous on both sides of the ball this season. While California is unbeaten coming into this contest, I have to say that the Bears’ narrow 45-44 road win over an awful Texas team in Week 3 – and their two most recent wins over Washington and Washington State, don’t leave me very encouraged. Conversely, Utah’s season-opening win over Michigan, combined with their rout over Oregon the last time out, makes them look very attractive in this matchup. 58 percent of the betting public likes Utah and I say that’s good, seeing as how Utah has won three of the last four meetings in the series and cal hasn’t won three straight road games since 2009. The Golden Bears are just 8-17 ATS in their last 25 conference games while Utah has gone 4-1 ATS in their last five games following a bye week and a blistering 10-3 ATS in their last 13 games against a team with a winning record. My Pick: Utah 38 Cal 28
