Week 10 College Football Betting Predictions & SU Picks

Written by on October 30, 2017

Could the SEC be the first conference with two teams in the playoff? The first College Football Playoff rankings come out Tuesday and it’s likely that Alabama is No. 1 and Georgia No. 2. They are in those spots in the new AP poll. Georgia moved up to No. 2 — its highest ranking since 2008 — and took two first-place votes from top-ranked Alabama. It’s the 20th time in the past 30 seasons the SEC has held the top 2 spots in the AP Poll in the same week. All other FBS conferences have combined for nine weeks. It’s a fantastic College Football betting week. Here are two intriguing betting matchups and their NCAAF odds: No. 3 Ohio State at Iowa and No. 6 Clemson at No. 20 NC State.

Why Bet On Ohio State?

The Buckeyes are way more talented than Iowa, although this could be a bit of a letdown game after this past Saturday’s thrilling 39-38 win over then-No. 2 Penn State that puts OSU right back in the College Football Playoff discussion and it now controls its own destiny to play in the Big Ten title game. J.T. Barrett was sensational in the victory and is back in the Heisman race. He capped the greatest game of his decorated career with a 16-yard touchdown pass to Marcus Baugh with 1:48 left in the fourth quarter and Ohio State rallied from 11 down in the final five minutes to hand the Nittany Lions their first loss. Barrett was near flawless, going 33 for 39 for 328 yards and four touchdown passes, three in the fourth quarter after the Buckeyes (7-1, 5-0 Big Ten) were down 35-20. Barrett set a school record with 423 yards of total offense, topping Art Schlichter’s previous best of 412 against Florida State in 1981. The Buckeyes eclipsed the 500-yard mark of total offense for the sixth-consecutive game, extending the longest streak in program history. Ohio State came back from two separate 18-point deficits, marking the largest deficit overcome by an Urban Meyer-coached team. The previous largest deficit overcome was against No. 1 Alabama in the 2015 Sugar Bowl when the Buckeyes trailed 21-6 in the second quarter and won 42-35.

Why Bet On Iowa?

The Hawkeyes (5-3) beat Minnesota 17-10 on Saturday. The Hawkeyes used touchdown drives on their opening possessions of both halves and got a fourth-quarter field goal from Miguel Recinos and it was enough. Iowa outgained Minnesota, 315-281, but it was in control throughout. Sophomore Nate Stanley completed 15-of-27 passes for 190 yards with one touchdown, while seniors Akrum Wadley (70 yards) and James Butler (28) combined to rush for 98 yards and one touchdown. Iowa had 125 rushing yards on 33 attempts. Iowa’s defense forced nine Minnesota punts, had a turnover via a Jake Gervase interception, and forced the Gophers into two turnovers on downs. LB Josey Jewell returned to the starting lineup after missing the previous game due to injury. Jewell led the team with 11 tackles. He has 18 career games with double‐digit tackles. Jewell has 382 career tackles, and tonight he passed Fred Bar for No. 7 all‐time in program history. Ohio State and Iowa are meeting for the 65th time with Ohio State officially holding a 46-14-3 lead in the series. It will be the Buckeyes’ first trip to Kinnick Stadium since 2010. The two teams also met in 2009, a 27-24 overtime victory that secured Ohio State’s trip to the Rose Bowl. Overall, Ohio State owns a 17-6-2 record in games at Iowa City.

Clemson at NC State College Football Betting Odds & Game Info

When: Saturday, 3:30 PM ET Where: Carter-Finley Stadium, Raleigh TV: ABC Stream: WatchESPN Radio: Tunein.com Opening NCAAF Lines: Clemson -7

Why Bet On Clemson?

The Tigers can all but wrap up a trip back to the ACC title game with a victory. Clemson (7-1) is off a 24-10 win over Georgia Tech. Offensively, the Tigers were led in both rushing and passing by quarterback Kelly Bryant, who ran for 67 yards on 12 carries and threw for 207 yards and two touchdowns on 22 completions. The Clemson defense, who held the Yellow Jackets to negative passing yardage until late in the fourth quarter, totaled 11 tackles for loss by eight different players. Clemson gave up seven or fewer points through the first three quarters for the sixth time this season. The Clemson defense gave up just three third-down conversions, its fewest given up this season. Clemson’s senior class improved to 26-4 in ACC regular season games, with the 26 wins serving as the third-most ACC wins for any senior class in program history. Is Clemson a safe bet in Week 10? Coming off of a loss, the Tigers avoided losing two in a row, improving their program record of 79 consecutive games without suffering back-to-back losses. The Tigers improved to 68-11 in those 79 games. Clemson won its 56th game of the past five years, which is tied for the second-most of any program in that stretch. Clemson won its 99th game of the past 10 years, which is tied for the fourth-most of any program in that stretch. Coach Dabo Swinney won his 96th game as the head coach of the Tigers, tying him with Danny Ford for the second-most wins by any Clemson head coach in program history.

Why Bet On NC State?

The Wolfpack (6-2) went out of conference and lost at Notre Dame 35-14. The Wolfpack, wo entered the game with one of the top run defenses in the country, couldn’t stop Irish tailback Josh Adams and couldn’t run the ball itself. An ankle injury to Nyheim Hines derailed the Wolfpack running game, which finished with only 50 yards (compared to 319 for the Irish). “You just have to tackle,” N.C. State coach Dave Doeren said. “That’s the No. 1 fundamental on defense, and we didn’t do that well enough.” N.C. State’s running game stalled without Hines. The junior running back turned his right ankle midway through the first quarter and didn’t play the rest of the game. Without Hines, N.C. State tried to rely on Ryan Finley, who threw 37 times for 213 yards but also had his first interception of the season. It was a quiet game for Jaylen Samuels, N.C. State’s leader in catches and touchdowns. He caught two passes for 21 yards and was held in check by Notre Dame’s aggressive secondary. Finley had his streak of 339 attempts without an INT snapped – which dated back to last season. The streak of 339 passes without an INT stands as second-best in both ACC and NC State history (Russell Wilson – 379). The INT was returned for a 69-yard score, the first INT returned for a touchdown against the Wolfpack since Duke in 2013. Linebacker Germaine Pratt scored his second touchdown of the season with a blocked punt recovered in the end zone. Pratt is the first defensive player at NC State to scour a pair of touchdowns in a season since David Amerson in 2011.
