Week 10 College Football Lines & Game Preview: Clemson vs. NC State

Written by on November 2, 2017

College football fans are more than a little divided on one particular issue this season. There is one group of fans who would love to see the Alabama Crimson Tide and the Clemson Tigers meet for a third straight year in the National Championship Game, as it would serve as a tie-breaker given that they have split the last two. On the other side of the coin, you have fans who would love to see that monopoly broke, which would mean at least one new team in the big game. With the release of the first official rankings from the playoff committee, it would appear that the chances of a three-peat are still very much alive, with both Alabama and Clemson in the top four and leading the College Football lines week after week. For the Clemson Tigers, though, it is a precarious position, as they cannot afford to drop a second game this season. Two losses would almost certainly end any shot that they have of making it to the playoffs. Clemson has a tough one this weekend, as they need to go on the road to face a very good NC State Wolfpack squad. Clemson is in as a 7-point favorite, with the point total for this one set at 51.

Why bet on the Clemson Tigers?

There were a lot of people who were a little surprised to see the Clemson Tigers take the #4 spot in the college football rankings, simply because they are not that far removed from a loss to the Syracuse Orange. What likely saved their bacon, though, was the fact that the Tigers have played a very tough schedule this season, with games against top 25 teams seemingly coming every other week. They have another one of those games ahead of them this weekend when they go on to the road to face NC State, who is ranked #20. It is worth remembering that the loss to Syracuse came when Clemson essentially was without their starting QB, as Kelly Bryant started that game injured and ended up being carted off the field. Clemson is 16-1 SU in their last 17 road games, and have gone 9-1 SU overall in their last 10 games against the Wolfpack. They are also 6-2 ATS in their last 8 road trips to Raleigh.

Why bet on the NC State Wolfpack?

The NC State Wolfpack saw their 6-game unbeaten streak come to an end last week in a 35-14 loss to Notre Dame, taking them to 6-2 on the season. This is a team that has taken down a couple of very good teams on the road to that record, with wins against Florida State and Louisville perhaps the best of the bunch. Despite playing at home, NC State is no favorite at the College Football Lines for Week 10. The Wolfpack have been very tough to beat at home, winning 4 of their last 5 there, but they have not been very good at covering the spread in their own building, and are just 1-5 in their last 6 games in Raleigh. Each of the last 5 games that NC State have played has gone UNDER the point total, as have 5 of their last 7 games versus Clemson.

Expert Pick and Final Score Prediction

Given that Clemson is currently sitting in the top 4, it almost goes without saying that they are in control of their own destiny. This is a team that knows how to win, so it’s going to be tough to bet against them the rest of the way. I like them to back their College Football Lines, including the cover, and I think the total will go ever so slightly OVER. Score: Clemson Tigers 31 – NC State Wolfpack 21
